With over 200 million subscribers globally, Amazon Prime Video is considered to be one of the best streaming services you can get.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t keep the platform from occasional downtimes and unexpected errors.

If you are reading this, we can assume that you are experiencing black screen issues on Amazon Prime Video.

Based on what we know, this problem occurs while streaming on your device and could be due to several factors. Most of the time, it is due to corrupted application data and server outages. However, it can also be due to improper configurations and slow network connections.

To help out, we’ve decided to make a guide for fixing black screen issues on Amazon Prime Video.

Let’s get right into it!

1. Check Amazon Prime Servers.

When you encounter problems on Amazon Prime, the first thing you should do is check the platform’s servers. This way, you’ll know whether the problem is coming from your end or Amazon Prime’s servers.

You can use third-party sites like Downdetector to view the current status of Amazon Prime’s servers.

If there are ongoing issues with the servers, the only option you have is to wait for their team to resolve the problem. Unfortunately, server-related errors can’t be resolved on your end. On the other hand, you can proceed to the next solution below if the servers are working.

2. Restart Your Device.

Before changing your configurations, we suggest restarting your device first to ensure that the black screen issue isn’t caused by a temporary error. This should reload your system resources and eliminate any bugs or glitches on your device.

Windows:

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key to open the Start Menu.
  2. After that, access the Power Options tab.
  3. Finally, click on Restart to reboot your system.

3. Check Your Network Connection.

Slow or unstable network connections could also be the reason for black screen issues on Amazon Prime. Since you’re using an online service, stable internet is needed to enjoy Amazon Prime’s content and services.

To confirm this, perform a test using Fast.com to measure your network’s upload and download bandwidth.

Speed Test

If the test indicates a problem with your network, we recommend restarting your modem or router to re-establish the connection with your ISP’s servers. Unplug your router from the outlet and wait for 5 to 10 seconds before reconnecting it.

Restart Router

Once done, re-run the test to your network to check if the problem is solved. If not, contact your ISP and ask them to fix the issue.

4. Check for System Updates.

Playback issues on Amazon Prime could also be due to bugs or glitches on your system. If this is the case, try updating your device or computer to the latest version possible to patch underlying errors.

On Windows:

  1. First, press the Windows + I keys on your keyboard.
  2. After that, go to Windows Update from the side menu.

We also suggest using a different HDMI cable on your set-top box to see if the black screen issue would also occur.

6. Update Your Display Drivers.

For Windows users, we recommend updating your display drivers if you encounter black screen issues on Amazon Prime Video. Your display driver might be outdated or has an underlying problem that causes black screen while streaming.

Here’s how you can update your drivers:
