How to Fix Buttons Not Working on Gmail

Can’t figure out how to fix buttons that are not working on Gmail?

Gmail is one of the biggest and most used mailing platforms globally. Ever since Android devices were introduced, the use of Gmail accounts has evolved so much. From having a simple interface to offering video conferences through hangouts, Gmail has come so far.

You’ll have a hard time dealing with your day-to-day office work without Gmail or Google’s ecosystem.

However, this could be the case if some features on Gmail are not working.

One of the most common problems on the platform is buttons that refuse to work. Although Gmail has a pleasing interface, it’s not flawless, and you might experience some buttons that are not working or showing up.

Usually, this issue is caused by issues on your web browser. However, it can also be due to faulty servers, temporary bugs, or third-party extensions.

To help you out, we’ve decided to make a guide for fixing buttons that are not working on Gmail.

Let’s dive right in!

1. Check Gmail Servers.

Before changing anything on your device or account, the first thing you should do is check Gmail’s servers. You can do this by visiting Google’s dedicated status page, where you can view the current status of their services.

If there’s a problem with Gmail, the best thing you can do for now is wait.

On the other hand, you can proceed to the following solutions below to troubleshoot the issue if there’s nothing wrong with Gmail.

2. Change Your Browser.

You might be using a web browser that is not optimized for Gmail, or it’s currently experiencing technical issues. Whichever the case is, we suggest switching to a much more reliable browser if you can’t use Gmail properly on your current one.

Try using web browsers from tested developers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera.

If some buttons are still not working on Gmail, try viewing the site in HTML Mode

3. Check Your Network Connection.

A slow network connection could also be why some buttons are not working on Gmail. Since your browser can’t communicate with the servers, some of Gmail’s content could not be loaded on time.

To confirm this, perform a test on your network using Fast.com to measure its current speed.

Speed Test

If the test shows that your internet is the culprit, unplug your modem from the outlet and wait for 5 to 10 seconds before plugging it back in. This should refresh the connection between your ISP and your router.

Restart Router

Re-run the test afterward to check if the problem is solved. If you continue to experience network-related issues, contact your ISP and ask them to fix their service.

4. Flush Your DNS.

If you’re having difficulty connecting to Gmail and other websites, the issue could be with your DNS cache. To fix this, we suggest flushing your DNS to eliminate broken or corrupted data.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. First, open the Quick Menu on your computer by pressing the Windows + X keys
  2. After that, click on Command Prompt (Admin)
  3. Lastly, type ‘ipconfig /flushdns’ and hit Enter to run the command.

Go back to Gmail after flushing your DNS cache and see if the problem is solved.

5. Clear Your Browsing Data.

Browsers use temporary data generated from your activity to enhance its performance and speed up the loading times of websites. These data are called caches and cookies. However, they can accumulate over time and become corrupted.

When this happens, expect issues to occur on the sites you visit and even on your browser.

To fix this, follow the steps below to clear your browsing data:

  1. On your PC, launch your preferred browser and access the Settings
  2. Next, go to Privacy and Security and click on Clear Browsing Data
  3. After that, change your target Time Range to All Time
  4. Finally, include caches and cookies in the process before hitting the Clear Data button.

Re-login to your Gmail account afterward and check if all the buttons are working on the website.

6. Disable Extensions.

Third-party extensions could also be the culprit for buttons not working on Gmail. Some of your browser extensions may not be compatible with Gmail, which interrupts its normal process.

To fix this, see the steps below to disable your extensions:

  1. Launch your preferred browser and go to the Settings
  2. Now, click on the Extensions tab from the side menu.
  3. Finally, disable your browser extensions and restart your browser.
