Cannot Log In Netflix Account? Here’s The Fix!

Are you trying to figure out why you cannot log in to your Netflix account?

If there’s an app that helped many people cope with the boredom of staying home due to COVID-19, that would be Netflix. With malls, parks, and theaters closed, Netflix has provided an excellent alternative for people to spend quality time with their loved ones.

Besides, Netflix has been popular even before the pandemic and has been known for its outstanding originals like Money Heist, Stranger Things, Ozark, and more.

Although Netflix is one of the most popular streaming platforms, it is not exempted from occasional errors, which is understandable. If you are here right now, you’re probably having a hard time logging into your Netflix account.

Most of the time, trouble logging in to Netflix is caused by network or server-related problems. However, you should also consider other factors like third-party apps, virus infection, or corrupted files when addressing this issue.

Given that this problem doesn’t point out a specific issue, troubleshooting can get confusing.

Luckily, you have come to the right place!

In this guide, we’ll show you what to do if you cannot log in to your Netflix account.

Let’s get started!

1. Verify Your Credentials.

Since Netflix accounts stay logged in most of the time, it is normal for users to mix up or forget their account credentials. If you cannot log in to your Netflix account, verify the account details you provide first if they are correct.

Check out the steps below to check your account credentials:

  1. First, go to your browser and access Netflix’s Log In Help page.
  2. After that, click on ‘I don’t remember my email or phone’.

Now, check the account credentials you are using and see if it is correct. Once done, go back to Netflix log-in page and try to re-access your account.

2. Reset Your Password.

Usually, users would only need to provide their account details once. After that, their Netflix account would remain logged in unless they switch devices or reset it. Some users may forget the password for their account or mix it up with passwords from other platforms.

If you don’t remember your current password on Netflix, you can always reset it.

See the steps below to reset your password:

Reset Password via Email:

  1. First, open your browser and go to Netflix’s Log In Help page.
  2. Next, select Email and enter the email you’ve used to register for Netflix
  3. After that, click the Email Me button.

  1. Finally, access your email address and follow the instructions sent by Netflix to reset your password.

Reset Password via Phone:

  1. On your browser, access Netflix’s Log In Help page.
  2. Now, select Text Message (SMS) and enter your mobile number.
  3. After that, click on Text Me and check your phone for the confirmation code sent by Netflix

  1. Lastly, enter the code on Netflix’s help page and follow the on-screen prompts to reset your password.

Once done, go back to the login page and try accessing your Netflix account.

If Netflix bills you through a third-party, visit their Help Center and search for the third-party’s name to find the related article. After that, proceed to the ‘I’m having trouble signing in to Netflix’ section.

3. Check Netflix Servers.

Server-related issues could also be why you cannot log in to your Netflix Account. Their team could be performing system maintenance, or an unexpected error occurred on the platform.

To check the status of Netflix, visit their dedicated page where they announce whenever the platform is down or experiencing issues.

Netflix Server Status

On the other hand, you can also use third-party sites like Downdetector if the Help Center is not accessible at the moment.

If Netflix’s servers are down, the best thing we recommend doing is to wait until their team gets everything sorted out.

4. Turn Off VPN.

Netflix has been known to crack down on users who take advantage of VPNs to access restricted contents for their region. If you are running any VPN on your device, disable it first before accessing your Netflix account.

VPNs can also cause delays and interruptions on your network, which can disrupt your viewing experience when watching your favorite movie/series on Netflix.

Turn Off VPN

On the other hand, you can also try using PureVPN if you prefer to use a VPN when browsing online. Unlike other VPNs, it doesn’t interrupt your connection and works well with Netflix and other applications.

5. Clear Browsing Data.

Browsers store temporary data on your device, which are called caches and cookies. However, these data can accumulate over time and get corrupted without warnings. If this happens, expect numerous problems to occur on your browser and the websites you visit.

To fix this, clear your browsing data to eliminate corrupted caches and cookies.

Follow the steps below to clear your browsing data:

  1. On your browser, press the CTRL + H keys on your keyboard to access the History tab.
  2. After that, click on Clear Browsing Data from your browser’s side drawer.
  3. Now, click on Time Range and select All Time from the drop-down menu.
  4. Finally, ensure that caches and cookies are included in the process before clicking the Clear Data button.

Once done, go back to Netflix and try to re-access your account.

6. Disable Browser Extensions or Try Another Browser.

Browser extensions or add-ons are applications installed directly on your browser that provide additional features on various websites. However, some websites are not compatible with these extensions and could lead to multiple problems.

If you are using extensions to manage your account credentials, try to turn it off before logging in to your Netflix account.

Follow the steps below to disable extensions on your browser:

  1. On your browser, click on the Options menu beside your profile and select Settings
  2. Now, click on the Extensions tab from the side menu to access it.
  3. Finally, identify any extensions related to account management and disable them.

After turning off your browser extensions, go back to Netflix and try logging into your account.

7. Run Malwarebytes.

If you are having issues accessing Netflix on your computer, you might be dealing with virus attacks. When viruses get into your computer, they will consume all its resources and cause slowdowns and other problems.

Use Malwarebytes to check your computer for viruses and malware. It automatically scans your system for any threat and removes them from your system without the need to lift a single finger.

8. Restart Your Device.

When you encounter errors and other issues on Netflix (or any application), you should always try restarting your device. Temporary bugs and glitches can occur on your operating system and cause all sorts of problems with the applications you use.

Restarting your device allows your operating system to reload all of its resources and eliminate any errors in the process.

On Windows, check out the steps below to restart your device:

  1. First, click the Windows key on your keyboard to access the Start Menu
  2. After that, click on the Power button to access the options screen.
  3. Finally, click on Restart and follow the prompts to continue.

9. Clear Netflix App Data (Android Only).

Android users have the option to manage their app data if errors occurred on their devices. Like browsers, Netflix stores caches and other temporary files to your device and uses them to improve its performance.

However, if temporary files got corrupted, Netflix might encounter errors and other problems.

To fix this, delete Netflix’s app data by doing the following steps:

  1. On your Android device, access the home screen and tap on the Settings app to open it.
  2. After that, scroll down and open the Apps tab.
  3. Next, locate Netflix from the list of applications and tap it.
  4. Finally, tap on Storage and hit the Clear Data button.

Go back to Netflix afterward and try logging into your account.

10. Reinstall Netflix App.

If you still can’t log in to your Netflix account, we suggest reinstalling the app from your device. Netflix’s installation files may have gotten corrupted during a failed update or while in-use and cause other features to malfunction.

On Windows, follow the steps below to uninstall Netflix:

  1. On your computer, press the Windows + S keys and search for Add or Remove Programs.
  2. After that, click on Open to launch it.
  3. Locate Netflix from the list of applications installed on your computer.

11. Check and Reset Your Internet.

A stable internet connection is required for you to use Netflix without problems. However, if you cannot log in to your Netflix account, run a speed test using Fast.com to check if your network connection is the problem.

If the result shows that your internet is unstable, restart your device to refresh the connection with your service provider’s servers. Find the power cable of your router and unplug it from the wall outlet for about 10 seconds. Once done, plug back in the power cable to restart your network router.

After restarting your router, re-run the test to check if your connection is now running correctly. However, if you continue to experience network-related problems, contact your ISP and ask them to fix their service.

12. Report the Problem to Netflix.

For your last option, we suggest that you let the experts take over if none of the methods above worked.

Visit Netflix’s Help Center and contact their customer support from there. Netflix’s customer service is available through the app, phone, and live chats. Make sure to include the essential details on your report to make it easier for Netflix to assess the situation.
