How to Fix Can’t Access Slack on Mac

Trying to figure out why you can’t access Slack on your Mac?

One of the best things about Slack is that it’s available on all major platforms. This means that you can access your account conveniently on any device. If that’s not enough, Slack also has a dedicated website for users who don’t have the Slack application installed.

Now, if you’re here, it is safe to assume that you have issues accessing the Slack app on your Mac.

Based on what we know, this problem on Slack is usually caused by faulty servers or slow internet connection. However, it’s also possible that Slack’s installation files got corrupted, or you’re running a version of Slack that has an issue.

Whichever the case is, this problem should be addressed right away so you can get back to your work in no time.

Today, we will show you what to do if you can’t access Slack on your Mac.

Let’s get started!

1. Check Slack Servers.

When you experience issues with Slack on your device, the first thing that you should do is verify if there’s a problem with the platform. This way, you can immediately know if the problem is on your side or Slack’s servers.

To do this, go ahead and visit Slack’s System Status page and see if there are reported issues with their services.

If Slack is currently down, the only thing you can do is wait until their team fixes the problem. On the other hand, you can proceed with the next method below if there’s nothing wrong with Slack’s servers.

2. Restart Your Device.

Before tweaking any configuration on your Mac, we recommend restarting its operating system first to ensure that everything is in order. This will allow your device to reload its resources and eliminate any temporary errors that may have occurred during use.

Check out the steps below to restart your Mac:

  1. On your main screen, click on the Apple logo on the top left corner of your display.
  2. After that, choose the Restart option.
  3. Finally, click the Restart button on the pop-up box to confirm your action.

After restarting your Mac, check if you can now access the Slack app.

3. Update Slack.

If you can’t access Slack on your Mac, you can try updating the app through the App Store. Since you cannot view Slack’s interface, the only way to update it is through your Mac’s App Store.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. First, go to the App Store on your Mac
  2. Next, open the Updates tab on the left sidebar.
  3. Lastly, press the Update button if there’s a pending update for Slack

Once done, relaunch the app to check if the problem is solved.

4. Check Your Network.

A slow internet connection could also be the reason why you can’t access Slack on your Mac. Since Slack is an online platform, you need to have decent internet to use the app without issues.

To confirm this, visit Fast.com on your browser and perform a speed test to measure your connection’s current upload and download bandwidth.

If you’re not getting the correct speeds indicated on your monthly plan, try restarting your modem or router to refresh the connection with your service provider’s servers.

Restart Router

Once done, re-run the test on your browser to check if the problem is solved. Contact your internet service provider if you continue to suffer from network-related issues and ask them to fix their service.

5. Turn Off VPN.

VPNs or virtual private networks are third-party apps that protect you and your data from harmful entities online. They also bypass restrictions set by your ISP to access applications and websites not available for your region.

However, VPNs could also introduce delays and interruptions to your network. When this happens, online applications such as Slack may have a hard time communicating with their servers.

If you are using a VPN, turn it off before accessing the Slack app on your Mac.

On the other hand, you can try using other VPNs if your current one keeps giving you headaches. We suggest checking out PureVPN as an alternative. Compared to other services, PureVPN keeps your network fast and stable while protecting your data.

6. Update Your Mac.

Your Mac’s operating system may have an underlying issue that causes apps not to work. It’s also possible that the version of macOS on your device is not compatible with the current version of Slack.

To fix this, follow the steps below to update your Mac’s operating system:

  1. First, go to the Apple Menu of your Mac and access System Preferences
  2. After that, open the Software Update tab.
  3. Lastly, click the Update Now or Upgrade Now button to install the latest macOS version on your computer.

After updating your Mac, go back to Slack to check if the problem is solved.

7. Reinstall Slack.

If the update did not work, Slack’s installation files might have gotten severely corrupted, and the update can’t fix it anymore. In this case, we recommend that you just reinstall the app on your device to ensure that you have the latest working copy of Slack.

Check out the guide below to delete Slack on your Mac:

  1. On your computer, go to the Finder and look for the Slack app.
  2. After that, drag Slack to the Trash to delete it.
  3. Finally, go to the App Store and reinstall the app from there.

On the other hand, you can also visit Slack’s website and download the desktop app installer.

Launch the Slack app afterward and see if you can now access the platform on your Mac.

8. Report the Problem to Slack.

If you still can’t access Slack on your Mac, it may be time to ask for assistance from the experts.

Visit Slack’s Help Center and contact their customer support to report the issue with the Slack app for macOS. Provide your account details and the current version of your Mac to make it easier for their team to troubleshoot the problem.
