How to Fix Chats Not Loading on Twitch

Wondering why chats are not loading on Twitch?

One of the main reasons why Twitch became so successful is the social aspect of the platform. Aside from watching live streams, users can also interact with the streamer or other users through the chatbox.

When you open a stream, one of the first things that will load is the chatbox. Once the stream begins, you’ll be automatically connected.

Without chats, we can argue that Twitch wouldn’t be as popular.

Recently, there have been reports from several users who are having a hard time connecting to chats on Twitch. If you like being active on streams, this can ruin your viewing experience.

Usually, server-related issues are the common cause of chats that are not loading on Twitch. On the other hand, it can also be due to corrupted data, third-party tools, or slow network connections.

If you’re experiencing this issue, we’ve got you covered.

Today, we’ll show you what to do if chats are not loading on your Twitch account.

Let’s dive right in!

1. Check Twitch Servers.

When you encounter issues on Twitch, it may indicate a problem with the servers. Since Twitch is an online service, it won’t function properly when the servers are offline. To confirm this, visit Twitch’s status page to check the current situations of the servers.

If there’s an ongoing issue on the platform, the only thing you can do is wait.

On the other hand, you can head to the following solutions below to troubleshoot the problem on your end, if Twitch’s servers are online.

2. Refresh Your Browser.

Before changing your configurations, we suggest refreshing your browser first if chats are not loading on Twitch. A temporary bug or glitch may have occurred while loading the site, causing some features not to load.

Hit F5 on your keyboard to refresh your browser or use the dedicated button beside the URL box of your browser.

If you’re using the dedicated app, you’ll see the Refresh button on the upper left corner of the window.

3. Restart Your Device.

A temporary error may have occurred on your device, causing connectivity issues to your system. To rule this out, give your device a restart to reload its resources and eliminate issues.

Here’s how you can restart your PC:

  1. First, access the Start Menu on your Taskbar
  2. After that, go to the Power Options tab.
  3. Lastly, click the Restart button.

After restarting your system, go back to the stream you’re watching to check if chats are loading on Twitch.

4. Check Your Network Connection.

Slow network connections could also be the reason chats are not loading on Twitch. Streaming videos online consume a lot of bandwidth. If your connection is slow or unstable, it’s likely that you’ll encounter issues.

To confirm this, run a test on your network using Fast.com to measure its current upload and download bandwidth.

Speed Test

If the result indicates an issue with your connection, restart your modem or router to re-establish the link between your modem and your ISP’s servers. Disconnect your router from the outlet and wait for 5-10 seconds before plugging it back in.

Restart Router

Perform another test afterward to check if the problem is solved. If you continue to experience network-related issues, contact your provider and ask them to fix their service.

5. Turn Off Your VPN.

Virtual private networks are tools that protect your network from hackers and other harmful entities. While they work great, they can also pose problems to the applications you use and introduce delays and instability to your network.

If you can’t access some features on Twitch, we suggest turning off your VPN before using the platform.

PureVPN

On the other hand, you can try switching to a better VPN provider like PureVPN. Unlike other services, PureVPN uses high-speed servers worldwide, ensuring high-quality and stable connections.

6. Clear Your Browsing Data.

You can also try clearing your browsing data if Twitch is not working correctly on your browser. This should clear corrupted caches and cookies from your system.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. First, open the History tab on your browser by pressing the CTRL + H keys
  2. After that, click on Clear Browsing Data on the side menu.
  3. Click on the Time Range tab and choose All Time from the drop-down menu.
  4. Lastly, include caches and cookies in the process before hitting the Clear Data button.
