Can’t figure out why chats are not showing on Twitch?

Twitch is one of the most convenient platforms to use for broadcasting shows or streaming gameplays. It provides various tools that help you improve your stream and make it look more professional.

While there are a handful of features on Twitch, one of the most used is Twitch chat.

This feature enables content creators and fans to communicate during a stream, allowing you to build a community within your channel.

The Twitch chat is also helpful in case something goes wrong on your stream. You’ll immediately know about the issue since most of your viewers will probably call you out for the problem.

It also adds life to your stream since you can interact with your viewers and try out some of their suggestions.

Unfortunately, there are instances when chats are not showing on Twitch during streams.

In this guide, we’ll show you what to do if you can’t see chats from your viewers on Twitch.

Let’s get started!

1. Check Twitch Servers.

If you encounter issues on Twitch while streaming, the first thing you should check is the platform’s status. An unexpected error may have occurred, causing some features to malfunction.

Visit Twitch’s status page to confirm if there’s an issue with the servers.

Unfortunately, server-related problems can’t be addressed on your end. If the servers are down, the best thing you can do is wait.

On the other hand, you can move on to the next solution if there’s nothing wrong with the servers.

Check out the steps below to restart your computer:

  1. First, access the Start Menu on your Taskbar
  2. After that, click on the Power Options tab.
  3. Lastly, choose Restart to reboot your system.

Wait for 2-3 minutes before logging back into your Twitch account. Restart your stream to check if Twitch chat is working.

4. Use Incognito Mode.

For unknown reasons, Twitch chat works if you access the platform using incognito or privacy mode on your browser. This should be a straightforward process as most modern browsers have this feature available.

  • Chrome / Edge – CTRL + SHIFT + N
  • Mozilla Firefox – CTRL + SHIFT + P

For other browsers, please refer to the app’s support page for the instructions to access privacy mode.

5. Check Your Internet Connection.

A slow or unstable internet connection could also be the reason chats are not showing on your Twitch stream. Since you’re using an online service, you’ll need a stable connection to avoid issues while streaming content.

To confirm if your network is the problem, perform a test using to measure your network’s current upload and download speed.

Speed Test

If the test indicates an issue with your connection, restart your router to re-establish the link with your ISP’s servers. Unplug your router from the outlet and wait for 5 to 10 seconds before reconnecting it.

Restart Router

Once done, re-run the test to check if your network is now running properly. If not, contact your internet service provider and ask them to fix the issue.

6. Clear Your Browsing Data.

Clearing your browsing data might also help address the issue with Twitch chat. This should eliminate corrupted caches and cookies in your system, which causes your browser and websites to run into issues.

See the steps below to clear your browsing data:

  1. First, open your web browser and press CTRL + H keys on your keyboard to open the History tab.

  2. Now, click on Command Prompt (Admin)
