How to Fix Discord Picking Up Game Audio Issue

Wondering why Discord is picking up your game audio?

Discord is arguably the best communication platform you can use when gaming. While most games have built-in chat features, they are often unoptimized, and the quality is simply unacceptable.

Fortunately, Discord got us covered and offers high-quality voice, video, and text chats.

However, this doesn’t mean that the platform is free of issues and errors. One of the most common problems with Discord is that it picks up the game audio, causing feedback and confusion among your friends or teammates.

Based on what we know, this issue usually occurs if the wrong input device is selected in your settings. On the other hand, it can also be due to server-related problems, corrupted files, or faulty drivers.

If you’re experiencing this problem right now, keep reading.

In this guide, we’re going to list down the most effective solutions that you can do if Discord is picking up your game audio.

Let’s begin!

1. Check Discord Servers.

Before tweaking your configurations, we recommend checking Discord’s services first. This way, you can identify if the issue is coming from your device or Discord’s end. Visit their dedicated status page and see if there are ongoing problems on the platform.

Unfortunately, server-related issues can’t be addressed on your end. In this case, the best thing you can do for now is to wait.

On the other hand, you can head to the next solution below if Discord’s services are up and running.

2. Restart Your Computer.

One of the quickest ways to fix most issues on Discord is to restart your system. This should allow your device to reload its resources and eliminate any errors that may have occurred on your system during use.

Check out the guide below to reboot your PC:

  1. On your keyboard, hit the Windows key to open the Start Menu
  2. After that, go to the Power Options tab.
  3. Finally, choose Restart

Once done, rejoin your voice chat to check if the problem is solved.

3. Turn Down Your Game Volume.

Some headsets, particularly budget ones, have sound leaks that your microphone can pick up. This can explain why Discord is picking up your game audio.

To avoid this, follow the steps below to lower your game volume:

  1. First, right-click on the Speaker icon on your Taskbar
  2. Now, choose the Open Volume Mixer option.
  3. Lastly, lower the volume of your game.

4. Check Your Input Settings.

Another reason why Discord is picking up your game audio is if the wrong input device is selected on your settings. Windows’ stereo mix could be set as your primary input device, which causes the issue.

Here’s how you can change your audio settings on Discord:

  1. Launch Discord on your computer and go to the Settings
  2. Next, go to Voice & Video
  3. Finally, click on Input Device and select your current microphone.
