How to Fix Discovery Plus Not Working on Apple TV

Is Discovery Plus not working on your Apple TV?

Watching shows on a large screen hits differently than streaming them on the go on your mobile device. Discovery Plus is one of the latest streaming services in the market, with support for most set-top boxes.

It is available for the Amazon Firestick and has a dedicated app for the Apple TV as well.

Unfortunately, the dedicated apps for set-top boxes aren’t as stable as their mobile app counterparts.

This means that Discovery Plus users on Apple TV may encounter issues more often than those who stream using the mobile app. Nonetheless, developers are trying their best to optimize the platform for Apple TV.

If you are reading this, we can assume that Discovery Plus is not working on your Apple TV.

Depending on the situation, this problem could be due to faulty servers, corrupted app data, or network-related issues.

Today, we’ve decided to make a guide for fixing Discovery Plus if it’s not working on Apple TV.

Let’s jump right in!

1. Check Discovery Plus Servers.

Before tweaking your configurations, we suggest checking Discovery Plus’ servers if the dedicated app for Apple TV is not working. There might be an ongoing issue with the platform that prevents the app from functioning.

To confirm this, you can use third-party tools like Downdetector to view the status of Discovery Plus’ servers.

If there are reported issues with the servers, the best thing you can do is wait. Sadly, server-related problems can only be addressed on Discovery’s end. This means that any changes on your Apple TV won’t help.

On the other hand, you can head to the next solution below if there are no issues with the servers.

2. Restart Your Apple TV.

When you encounter issues with Discovery Plus on your Apple TV, we suggest restarting your device. This should reload your operating system and eliminate temporary errors that may have occurred during runtime.

Here are some ways how to restart your Apple TV:

  • Press the Back and TV button on your remote simultaneously until your Apple TV’s status light blinks repeatedly.
  • Unplug your Apple TV’s power cable from the outlet and reconnect it after five seconds.
  • Go to the Settings of your Apple TV and click on System. Select Restart and follow the on-screen prompts to reboot your device.

After rebooting your device, go back to Discovery Plus to check if the problem is solved.

3. Check Your Cables.

Since Apple TV is a set-top box, it connects to your TV or display using an HDMI cable. If you encounter issues with video quality and color, the problem could be with the cable you are using.

In this case, we suggest inspecting the HDMI cable of your Apple TV and ensuring that it is not damaged. Check for any exposed wires or broken pins in the cable.

If you found issues with the cable, replace it immediately.

4. Check Your Network Connection.

Since Discovery Plus is an online platform, it relies on the servers to deliver content and features. If you can’t stream anything on your device, it might indicate a problem with your connection.

To confirm this, perform a speed test using Fast.com to measure your network’s upload and download bandwidth.

Speed Test

If the problem lies with your network, we recommend restarting your router to re-establish the connection with your service provider’s servers. Disconnect your modem’s power cable from the outlet and allow 5 to 10 seconds to pass before plugging it back in.

Restart Router

Once done, re-run the test on your network to check if the problem is solved. If the issue persists, contact your ISP and ask them to fix your connection.

5. Update Your Apple TV.

The firmware of your Apple TV might have an issue that causes Discovery Plus to malfunction. To be sure, we suggest updating your firmware to the latest version possible to patch bugs and errors.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. On your Apple TV, go to the Settings and click on System
  2. From there, access the Software Updates tab.
  3. Finally, turn on Automatically Update and restart your system.

Now, your Apple TV will automatically install pending system updates. Go back to Discovery Plus afterward to check if the app is working.

6. Try Other Shows.

If you are having a hard time streaming a certain show on Discovery Plus, it’s possible that the issue is not with the entire platform. To confirm this, go back to the media library and try playing other shows.

If you can stream other titles on your Apple TV without issues, it means that the title you initially played is currently unavailable.

Allow several hours to pass before trying to watch that show again.

7. Contact Discovery Plus Support.

If none of the solutions above worked for you, the last option you have is to let the experts handle the situation.

Go to Discovery Plus’ Support page and get in touch with their team to ask for assistance regarding the issue you’ve been experiencing. Provide the exact model of your Apple TV, your account details, and other information that could help Discovery’s team.
