Do you encounter download problems on Telegram?

Telegram is a cloud-based messaging service that uses end-to-end encryption for security. It is available for all major operating systems and has support for media and file sharing.

Due to its multi-platform support, many businesses, individuals, and groups prefer using Telegram for communication. Currently, Telegram has over 400 million registered users and is considered the most downloaded app in the world.

While it’s obviously on top of the market, this doesn’t save Telegram from unexpected downtimes and errors.

If you are here, we can assume that you are experiencing download problems on Telegram.

Based on what we know, download issues on Telegram are usually caused by server or network-related problems. However, it can also be due to improper device settings, corrupted data, or outdated software.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to address download problems on Telegram.

Let’s dive right in!

1. Check Telegram Servers.

Before changing your configurations, we recommend checking Telegram’s servers first if you can’t download media files from your conversations. This way, you’ll know right away where the problem is coming from.

You can use third-party tools like Downdetector to view the current status of Telegram’s servers.

If the servers are offline, the only thing you can do is wait since server-related problems can’t be resolved on your end. On the other hand, you can head to the next solution below if Telegram’s servers are online.

2. Restart Your Device.

When you encounter download problems on Telegram, the first thing you should do is restart your device. A temporary bug or glitch may have occurred on your system, causing Telegram to malfunction.

On Android devices, see the guide below to restart them:

  1. First, locate the Power button on your Android device.
  2. After that, hold it down until the options menu appears.

Once done, go back to Telegram and try downloading some files.

3. Check Your Network Connection.

A slow or unstable internet connection could also be the reason you can’t download on Telegram. Since you are using an online service, you’ll need a decent connection to avoid issues.

To check if the problem is caused by your network, perform a test using Fast.com to measure its upload and download bandwidth.

Speed Test

If the test indicates a problem with your connection, restart your modem or router to re-establish the link between your device and your ISP’s servers. Unplug your router from the outlet and wait for 5 to 10 seconds before plugging it back in.

Once done, run another test to check if your network is working correctly. If not, contact your provider and ask them to fix their service.

4. Check Your Permissions (Android).

If you’re using an Android device, you might want to check Telegram’s permissions and ensure that it is allowed to save files in your storage.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. First, go to your app drawer and locate Telegram
  2. Next, hold down its app icon until the selection menu appears.

5. Turn Off Power Saving.

Power Saving is a feature on most modern mobile devices which restricts applications’ activity. This also limits your CPU’s frequency and reduces network usage to save battery. While power saving mode works great for conserving battery life, it could also affect basic functionalities of your device.

If you can’t download files, photos, or videos on Telegram, try turning off power saving mode on your device first.

6. Update Telegram.

The version of Telegram you’re using might have an issue related to file downloads. If this is the case, we suggest updating Telegram on your device to patch possible bugs and glitches in the platform.

Head to the Google Play Store or App Store and install the latest version of Telegram. You can also take this time to update other apps on your device as well.

7. Reinstall Telegram.

If none of the solutions above worked for you, we recommend reinstalling Telegram on your device. Some of the app’s installation packages may have gotten severely corrupted and are no longer fixable.

Reinstalling Telegram should ensure that you have the latest working version of the app. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. First, go to your app drawer and locate Telegram
  2. After that, hold down its app icon until the selection menu appears.
  3. Lastly, tap on Remove App (iOS) or Uninstall (Android) to delete the app.
