How to Fix Error 279 on Roblox

Keep seeing an error code 279 on Roblox when loading or joining a game?

If you’ve been playing Roblox for a while now, you have probably encountered several issues on the platform. Unfortunately, all applications and programs encounter problems at some point. Even tech giants like Facebook and Google are not exempted from this.

One of the most common issues on Roblox is the error code 279. This problem occurs when you try to join a world or game on the platform.

Instead of loading the game, you’ll be greeted by an error message indicating that it failed to connect with the game servers.

Usually, offline or faulty servers are the reason behind this error code on Roblox. However, it can also be due to slow internet connections, improper system configurations, or third-party software that blocks Roblox’s access to your network.

To help you out, we’ve decided to make a guide for fixing the error code 279 on Roblox.

Let’s get right into it!

1. Check Roblox Servers.

Before starting with the actual solutions, we need to identify first where the problem is coming from. This will save you time troubleshooting the issue, not knowing that the problem is not on your side.

To identify if the problem is with Roblox or your computer, you can use third-party tools such as Downdetector

If there are reported issues on Roblox, this means that there’s nothing wrong with your system, and you’ll just have to leave the matter to Roblox’s team. On the other hand, you can start doing the next solution below if Roblox’s servers are up and running.

2. Restart Your Computer.

If you can’t join a game on Roblox due to an error message, we suggest restarting your computer first. This will ensure that everything is working correctly on your system and there are no existing bugs or glitches.

Check out the steps below to restart your Windows PC properly:

  1. First, go to the Start Menu on your computer.
  2. After that, open the Power Options tab.
  3. Lastly, click on Restart to reboot your system.

Once done, go back to Roblox and see if the error code 279 still occurs when joining a game.

3. Use a Compatible Browser.

Although Roblox’s game library can be accessed using any browser, the developers suggest using supported browsers when launching or joining a game. If you experience the error code 279 when joining a game on Roblox, we recommend switching to a trusted web browser.

You can try using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome, which are web browsers recommended for playing Roblox.

4. Check Your Firewall.

Windows has a security feature called Windows Defender Firewall, which controls the access of applications to the internet. If you experience connection issues on Roblox when joining a game, it’s possible that Roblox is not allowed through your firewall.

To fix this, see the steps below to allow Roblox through Windows Defender Firewall:

  1. On your computer, go to the Start Menu and access Windows Settings
  2. Next, click on Update & Security and choose Windows Security
  3. After that, open the Firewall & Network Protection tab.
  4. Finally, click on Allow an App Through Firewall and ensure that Roblox is allowed to access your Private and Public Networks

Go back to Roblox afterward and try joining another game to check if the problem is solved.

5. Disable Your Antivirus.

If you are using third-party antivirus on your system, it could be the reason why you keep seeing the error code 279 or Roblox. While antivirus programs are great for keeping viruses and malware away from your system, they can also get too protective.

Your antivirus software might be blocking Roblox’s access to your system and network, causing the platform not to work correctly.

To avoid this, disable your antivirus before running Roblox. On the other hand, you can also add Roblox to your antivirus’ safelist or exemption list to prevent the program from blocking Roblox’s access to the internet.

6. Check Your Internet Connection.

A slow internet connection could also be the reason for the error code 279 on Roblox. If your network is unstable, Roblox will have difficulty communicating with the servers, which triggers the error message.

To confirm this, run a test on your network using Fast.com to measure its current upload and download speed.

If the result suggests that your connection is the problem, reboot your modem or router to re-establish the link between your router and your ISP’s servers. Unplug your router from the outlet and wait for 5 to 10 seconds before reconnecting it.

Once done, perform another speed test to check if the problem is solved. If your network is still running slow, contact your service provider and ask them to fix the issue.

7. Clear Your Browsing Data.

Browsers store temporary data on your computer, which are called caches and cookies. Your browser uses this data for shortening the loading times of websites and improving their overall performance.

However, caches and cookies can accumulate over time and could cause issues to your browser and the websites you visit.

To fix this, clear your browsing data to reset your caches and cookies:

  1. First, launch your web browser and click on the Options button.
  2. After that, choose Settings and scroll down to the Privacy and Security tab.
  3. Now, click on Clear Browsing Data and change the Time Range to All Time
  4. Lastly, include caches and cookies in the process and hit the Clear Data button.

After clearing your browsing data, go back to Roblox and check if the problem is solved.

8. Disable Your Extensions (Ad-Blocker).

If you are using ad-blockers on your browser, you’ll have to turn them off before playing Roblox. The game won’t work on your computer if you are using ad-blockers since it’s one of the primary ways for the developers to earn revenue, given that Roblox is a free-to-play platform.

Check out the steps below to disable your browser extensions:

  1. On your browser, click on Options and choose Settings
  2. Now, click on the Extensions tab from the side menu.
  3. Finally, disable your extension and restart your web browser.

Try playing another game on Roblox after turning off ad-blockers and extensions to see if the problem is solved.

9. Make Sure Required UDP Ports Are Opened.

Roblox uses various UDP ports on your network, which vary depending on your operating system. Currently, the game uses port range UDP 49152 – 65535. If you experience connection problems on Roblox, ensure that these ports are open on your network.

You can contact your network administrator or service provider and have them open this port range.

10. Reinstall Roblox.

If none of the solutions above worked for you, the only option left is to reinstall the game on your computer. This way, you can ensure that you have the latest working copy of the platform installed on your system.

Follow the steps below to delete Roblox on your computer:

  1. First, access the Control Panel
  2. After that, click on Uninstall a Program and find Roblox from the list of apps installed on your system.
  3. Lastly, right-click on Roblox and select Uninstall. Follow the prompts to continue with the process.
