Fix: Stop Error Code 0x00000024 BSOD on Windows

On-screen errors are always frustrating and never fail to drain life off one’s face when they show up unexpectedly. What’s worse in these situations is having no idea about what happened in the first place.

One such common error that has been recently showing up on Windows users’ screens is the error code 0x00000024 BSOD. This error is also called the ‘Blue screen of death’ error and occurs right after the Windows OS gets started.

If your screen is displaying this error code, too, you’re in the right place. We have compiled a list of practical solutions that will help you resolve the issue in no time.

Let’s get started.

1. Run SFC and DISM Scans.

If your screen is displaying the error code 0x00000024 BSOD on Windows, then there is a high chance that a corrupt system app or driver is causing the issue. Luckily, Windows comes with several built-in utilities that allow the users to scan through the system files. If these tools identify any errors, they attempt to fix them automatically.

In this method, we would be using two tools: the Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool (DISM) and System File Checker (SFC). Both of these tools are designed for advanced users to repair the corruption errors within the operating system.

We suggest running an SFC scan first. If it does not resolve the issue, you can then run a scan using the DISM tool. It is also important to note that this process can take up to an hour to complete, which is why we suggest proceeding with it only if you’re not in a rush.

Here is what you need to do:

  1. Type cmd in the search bar and click on Run as administrator
  2. In elevated Command Prompt, type the command listed below and hit Enter to execute it.
sfc /scannow
SFC command DISM
  1. Once the command is executed, restart your PC and check if the error is resolved. If not, then open the elevated Command Prompt again.
  2. Type the command mentioned below and hit Enter
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Restore Health Command
  1. Finally, restart your PC again.

If a corruption error within the system was causing the issue, performing the scans mentioned above will resolve it.

2. Run a CHKDSK Scan.

If the error under consideration popped up on your screen right after installing a new program, then it might be because of a hard drive issue. In this case, running a CHKDSK (Check disk) scan is the safest way to troubleshoot the problem.

A CHKDSK  scan can analyze the hard drive errors and run repairs with little to no user input.

Here is how you can run a CHKDSK scan to stop the error code 0x00000024 BSOD on Windows:

  1. Type Command Prompt in the search bar and click on Run as administrator.
  2. Inside the elevated Command Prompt window, type the command mentioned below and hit Enter to execute it. Don’t forget to replace the ‘Drive’ with the drive’s name that you want to check. For instance, if you’re going to check disk c, replace Drive with C
chkdsk drive:/f

That’s it. If a hard drive error was causing the issue, running the CHKDSK  command will resolve it. You should now be able to use your PC without any problems.

3. Clean Boot Your PC.

Another possible reason behind the blue screen critical error is the corrupt local applications installed on your PC. Several users were able to resolve the issue at hand after eliminating the faulty programs, which is why we recommend you try it if running the scans mentioned above did not fix the problem.

The easiest way to run diagnostic tests to identify the faulty program is to run your PC in a clean boot state.

Here is how you can do that:

  1. Type System Configuration in the search bar and go to the Services tab.
  2. Checkmark the Hide all Microsoft services box.

  1. Now select the first half of the services by clicking on the checkbox against them manually.
  2. Click on OK and restart your PC.
  3. Check if the issue is resolved. If the error persists, then this implies that one of the selected services is causing the error. In this case, continue from the 6th step but if you managed to resolve the issue repeat the same process with the services you did not select in the 3rd step.
  4. Repeat the same process as mentioned in the 3rd step but this time, select half of the previously selected services and click on OK.
  5. Restart your PC and check if the error is resolved. If not, keep repeating the process till you identify the one problematic app.
  6. Once you have identified the faulty application or driver, uninstall it.

Uninstalling the problematic application will hopefully resolve the error code 0x00000024 on your PC.

4. Try Using CleanMyPC.

If you haven’t paid attention to the junk files in your system for quite a while, then now might be the right time to do so as several users found the junk system files to be the culprit.

We might not realize it, but these unwanted files have the potential to cause severe issues within our operating systems. This is why just like your fridge, your system needs proper maintenance, too if you do not want it to get contaminated and fall sick.

Luckily, several PC cleaners are available in the market that makes the decluttering job quicker and straightforward. Our personal favorite is CleanMyPC, as it comes with a wide range of system maintenance tools, including a Multi Uninstaller, Registry Cleaner, Speed Booster, and several others.

Here is how you can do it:
