How to Fix ‘Failed to Install Dependency’ Error on Kodi

Seeing a ‘Failed to Install Dependency’ error message on Kodi when installing an add-on or build?

Kodi is a powerful media player capable of playing media files on your local storage and streaming content online. The app also supports third-party add-ons, which fetch video streams from any source and play it on your device.

However, not all add-ons are stable, and some of them may cause you some issues during installation.

If you’re here, you probably see a ‘Failed to Install Dependency’ error on Kodi.

Based on what we know, this issue is caused by missing dependencies, corrupted files, broken database, or improper device configuration. When this error message occurs, you won’t be able to install your favorite add-ons on Kodi.

Fortunately, you’ve come to the right place.

Today, we will show you what to do if you see a ‘Failed to Install Dependency’ error message on Kodi.

Let’s get started!

1. Check Other Add-Ons.

Before changing your system configuration, we suggest that you identify first where the problem is coming from. You can do this by installing other add-ons on Kodi to check if the issue is isolated on one add-on or your entire system.

If you can install other add-ons without problems, this means that the add-on you’re trying to install initially is either broken or requires additional dependencies.

Proceed to the next method below to start troubleshooting the error message.

2. Clear Kodi Cache.

If you keep running into an error message while installing an add-on, it may indicate that there’s something wrong with Kodi’s cache. To rule this out, we suggest clearing your app cache to ensure there is no broken or corrupted data.

For Windows computers, see the steps below to clear Kodi’s cache:

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows + R keys to access the Run Command
  2. After that, type ‘%temp%’ and hit Enter to open the folder.
  3. Finally, select all the files inside the folder and delete them.

3. Rebuild Your Database.

To fix this, follow the steps below to rebuild Kodi’s database:

  1. On Kodi, access the Settings and click on File Manager
  2. After that, go to Profile Directory and open the Database folder.
  3. Finally, locate the Addons(number).db file and delete it.
