In November of 2020, Twitter announced a new feature on their platform, called Fleets. This extra feature on Twitter is supposed to compete with snaps on Snapchat and stories on Facebook and Instagram. 

Although the new feature received a fair amount of criticism, it is not a bad idea for Twitter to bring in more features to their app, right? 

If you have finally given in and want to try it out, you might be surprised if you found that fleets are not working on Twitter. 

Given that fleets on Twitter are still new, we should expect some problems to occur from time to time. 

With this, we’ve decided to make a guide in fixing fleets not working on Twitter. 

Let’s get started!

 

 

1. Check Twitter’s Servers. 

If a feature on Twitter is not working correctly, the first thing you should do is visit Twitter’s status page to check their services’ status. Some of its functions may be down for maintenance, or its servers encountered a problem. 

Usually, server related problems are not fixable on the user’s end, but you can still try the suggested methods below to alleviate the situation. 

You can also try uploading your fleets after a couple of minutes or when Twitter’s servers are already working correctly. 

 

 

2. Follow Twitter’s Guidelines. 

Twitter fleets are just like tweets, and it is still subject to follow the community guidelines. Before uploading your fleets, make sure that it doesn’t promote violence, hateful speech, terrorism, self-harm, or other activities that can potentially hurt others physically or mentally.

3. Turn Off VPN.

VPN services are third-party programs that provide security to your home network. It works by masking your real IP address with a generated one from their servers. Although it works well for keeping your connection private, it can also negatively affect your network. 

Since random changes happen on your network, your device may have difficulty keeping a stable connection with Twitter, which causes the problem with fleets. 

Try to disable your VPN and see if Twitter fleets will work. 

 

 

 

4. Re-Login to Your Account. 

Your account may be suffering from a temporary error that causes some of Twitter’s features to malfunction. Try signing out of your account and log back in after a few minutes to refresh its data. 

On Android, you can sign out your Twitter account by doing the following: 

  1. First, open Twitter on your device and open the side menu. 
  2. Now, tap on Settings and Privacy and open the Accounts tab.
  3. Lastly, tap on Log Out

  1. On your device, go to the home screen and open Twitter. 
  2. Access the side drawer afterwards and tap on Settings and Privacy
  3. Finally, tap on the Accounts tab and hit the Log Out button.

  1. First, open your browser and access your Twitter account. 
  2. Now, tap on the More button next to your Profile icon. 
  3. Lastly, tap on Log Out to sign out of your account. 

 

Wait for about 5 minutes and re-access your account. Try to use fleets again to check if the problem is solved. 

 

 

5. Check for Updates. 

If something is not right on your Twitter app, try to check for updates. The version installed on your device could have an underlying issue with the new feature.

  1. First, open the Play Store on your Android device and tap on the Menu button at the top of your display. 
  2. After that, tap on My Apps & Games from the side menu. 
  3. If an update is available, tap on the Update button to install it.

  2. After that, tap on the Updates tab on the navigation bar. 
  3. Lastly, tap on Update if there’s an available update for Twitter

6. Clear Your Web and Media Storage (iOS Only). 

On iOS, you can clear your web or media storage if some features are not working on the Twitter app. Your web and media storage contains cached files that can cause problems if it gets corrupted.

  1. First, open the Twitter app on your iOS device and access the side drawer. 
  2. After that, tap on Settings and Privacy and go to the General tab. 
  3. Open Data Usage and tap on Web Storage or Media Storage
  4. Lastly, tap the Clear Media Storage or Clear Web Storage

 

Repeat the steps above to clear both your web and media storage. 

 

 

7. Reinstall the Twitter App. 

If the update could not fix Twitter fleets, you may be suffering from a much serious problem. Try to reinstall the Twitter app to ensure that you have a working copy of the app, and it doesn’t have any errors. 

On Android, follow the steps below to reinstall Twitter. 

  1. First, open your device and go to the app drawer. 
  2. After that, tap and hold Twitter’s app icon to access the pop-up menu.
  3. Lastly, tap the Uninstall button to remove the app. 

 

Go to the Play Store afterwards and reinstall Twitter from there.

  2. Now, tap and hold its app icon until you see the options menu.

8. Check and Reset Your Internet. 

Since fleets can contain photos and videos, you must have a decent network connection for it to work. If you think your connection is running slow, run a speed test using Fast.com to verify it.

Try to restart your router if the result shows that your connection is the problem. Locate your router’s power cable and unplug it from the wall outlet for 5 to 10 seconds. Now, plug back in the power cable to turn on your router.

Run another test to check your network’s current speed. If you continue to experience your network problems, contact your ISP immediately and ask them to fix their service.
