How to Fix Fortnite Stuck on Loading Screen

Is Fortnite stuck on the loading screen on your PC?

Fortnite is one of the most popular battle royale games in the world. The game currently has over 150 million registered users and 80 million active monthly users.

Whenever a new content or season rolls out, many Fortnite players come running back to the game to try everything Epic Games has to offer. Due to this, Fortnite’s servers get overwhelmed by the spike in user traffic during the start of each season.

When the servers get overwhelmed, they could crash and cause Fortnite to get stuck on the loading screen.

However, this doesn’t mean that this issue is only caused by server-related problems.

Fortnite getting stuck on the loading screen can also indicate an issue with your installation files and graphics card drivers.

Today, we’re going to show you what to do if Fortnite keeps getting stuck on the loading screen.

Let’s dive right in!

1. Check Fortnite Servers.

Before changing your configurations, the first thing you should do is check Fortnite’s servers. This way, you’ll know if the problem is on your device or Fortnite’s end. Visit Epic Games’ status page to check the current situation of Fortnite’s servers.

If there’s an ongoing problem with Fortnite, the only thing you can do is wait for their team to resolve the issue.

On the other hand, you can proceed to the next method below if there’s nothing wrong with Fortnite.

2. Restart Your PC.

One of the quickest ways to fix most issues on Fortnite is to restart your system. This should allow your computer to reload its resources and eliminate temporary errors that may have occurred during runtime.

Follow the steps below to restart your PC:

  1. First, press the Windows key on your keyboard to open the Start Menu
  2. Now, go to the Power Options tab.
  3. Lastly, click on Restart to reboot your computer.

3. Verify Your Game Files.

Epic Games has a built-in tool that allows you to verify your installation files if a game is not working correctly on your PC. If Fortnite keeps getting stuck on the loading screen, run the tool on Epic Games’ launcher to check for corrupted or missing installation files.

See the steps below to verify your Fortnite installation files:

  1. Start by launching the Epic Games launcher on your PC
  2. After that, go to your Library and look for Fortnite
  3. Finally, right-click on the game and choose the Verify option.

Follow the prompts to continue and go back to the game after the process to check if the problem is solved.

4. Update Your Graphics Drivers.

The current version of your graphics drivers may not be compatible with the version of Fortnite you’re using. It’s also possible that your drivers got corrupted due to an error, causing your GPU to malfunction.

To rule this out, follow the steps below to update your GPU drivers on Windows:

  1. Press the Windows + X keys on your keyboard to open the Quick Menu
  2. Next, click on the Device Manager and expand the Display Adapters tab.
  3. Lastly, right-click on your video card and choose Update Driver

Once done, go back to Fortnite and see if it will load.

5. Update Windows.

Compatibility issues could also be the reason Fortnite is not working correctly on your computer. If you can’t load the game, it may indicate that the current version of your operating system is not supported by Fortnite.

To fix this, update Windows to the latest version possible to address compatibility issues and ensure there are no bugs on your system.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. First, open Windows Settings on your computer.
  2. After that, click on Update & Security
  3. Lastly, go to Windows Update and hit the Check for Updates button. Follow the prompts to install the update.

Restart your system after updating Windows and go back to Fortnite to see if the update worked.

6. Check Your Network Connection.

Slow or unstable networks could also cause loading issues on Fortnite. Since Fortnite is an online game, it needs a stable internet to run smoothly. To check if your network is the culprit, run a test using Fast.com to measure its current speed.

Speed Test

If the test result indicates an issue with your network, restart your modem or router to refresh the connection with your ISP. Unplug your router from the wall outlet and wait for 5 to 10 seconds before reconnecting it.

Restart Router

Once done, perform another test to check if the problem is solved. If not, report the issue to your service provider and ask them to fix their service.

7. Reinstall Fortnite.

If Fortnite still gets stuck on the loading screen, we suggest reinstalling the game on your computer. This way, we can ensure that you have the latest working version of Fortnite and there are no corrupted installation files on your system.

See the guide below to uninstall Fortnite:

  1. On your PC, launch the Epic Games launcher.
  2. Next, go to your Library and find Fortnite from the list.
  3. Finally, right-click on the game and choose Uninstall
