How to Get Microsoft Office 365 for Free as a Student

get microsoft office 365 for free

Just the other day whilst I was in class, my teacher asked us to learn how to use Microsoft Access, which is an app by Microsoft that’s used to model and create databases.

Now just so you know, like you, I am a student too and I am currently doing Computer Science which explains my situation and why I needed to learn Microsoft Access.

But here’s the problem I had:

I installed Microsoft Windows 10 together with the Office 365 a few months back when I got my laptop but for some reason now I couldn’t find the application, Microsoft Access, installed on my computer.

So I tried to ask around, ask on Reddit, and do my Google research to find a way to somehow get Microsoft Access so that I could learn it in time before my exam came up which was just two days away.

I didn’t intent to spend another $100+ on a new Office 365 license either just so that I can get Microsoft Access. So my last option was to look around  if Microsoft was offering any promotion for students, which I thought at least that way I could get the Office 365 cheaper. Much to my surprise, I found that Microsoft does provide Office 365 for free if you have the email address (for example, that your school, college or university provided for you.

In this quick and simple guide, I’ll show you exactly how to install Office 365 for free (if you’re a student or even if you’re a teacher) using your school email address in just seven simple steps.

Head’s up!

You can use the plan as long as you’re still in school with your (.edu) email address active.

Awesome! Let’s dive right in.

You don’t have to change the version at all. The 32-bit version that Microsoft has already set is more than enough to handle all the tasks you’ll ever need.

Step 7:  From here, just continue with the installation like you always do and once it’s done you’ll get your Microsoft Office 365. 🙂

  1. I guess I am going to have to buy that office365, even though I am a student. I have tried everything to get the free download. my email address does not contain the college I am attending. my email address is yahoo. that does not work. and I do not have in my email address. I think it is very messed up as I have a ton of homework to get done rather than jacking with this ass-a-nine downloads that do not work unless you pay for it

  2. thankoooooooo soooooo much … i have got it for free using my college id ….. thanxs for the guidance

  3. I’m a current student at a major university with a valid email address. when I click “install,” it refuses, and says: “You currently have not been assigned an Office license that includes the Office desktop apps. Contact your admin for more information about how to get Office for your organization.” useless.

  4. Same. I’m not eligible despite having my .edu email. Sounds like only specific schools are considered worthy of having the use of the software free. Wouldn’t it be the ironic if it were all the rich schools that have the free access whose students don’t even need it free….. either way they shouldn’t advertise “Free for students” since there are MANY students with this same problem. Even f I have to go through my administrator to get it then that also creates more issues/questions. Are we monitored and penalized for using the software outside of our education say for a flyer or letter to parents/family while away? Shouldn’t matter, thanks Microsoft for misleading and disappointing so many but hope that bias works out for ya.

  5. This guide needs updated. I tried to follow the steps, but they no longer work for the Current Versions.

  6. Thanks…. It worked for me really well. The article was right and every step is correct and explained in the most familiar way. Again Thankyou.

  7. Hi, I was able to go till step 6 but while installing it wasn’t able to give me permission. I had stopped at the last step and now I will still continue to try. I will reply to this comment if it works

  8. hey, so I tried after a few hours after signing into my admin account and downloading it there first. So, in conclusion it works.
