How to Fix Gray Screen Issue on Discord

Wondering how you can fix the gray screen issue on Discord?

Discord is a communication platform used for voice calls, video chats, messaging, and more. The app is utilized mainly by gamers but is slowly being used by professionals, organizations, and various groups.

With more than 300 million registered users in 2020, it’s considered one of the best communication platforms out there.

Despite its success, it doesn’t mean that Discord is flawless. Some of its features are questionable and occasionally run into unexpected errors and glitches.

One of the most common problems on Discord is the gray screen issue. This occurs while launching the app, and instead of bringing you to the home screen, you’re stuck on a blank gray screen with no buttons or error codes.

Most of the time, this issue is caused by server-related problems. However, it can also be due to third-party programs, slow network connections, or improper device configurations.

If you’re experiencing this issue, keep reading.

Today, we’ve decided to make a guide for fixing the gray screen issue on Discord.

Let’s get started!

1. Check Discord Status.

One of the first things you should do when you encounter problems on Discord is to check its status. Since you’re using an online platform, Discord won’t work correctly if the servers are down.

You can check the app’s current status by visiting Discord’s dedicated status page

If the servers are down, there’s nothing you can do but wait. On the other hand, you can proceed to the following solutions below if Discord’s servers are up and running.

2. Restart Your Device.

If you can’t access the Discord app on your Windows PC, we suggest restarting it first before changing your configurations. This should allow your system to reload its resources and fix temporary bugs and glitches.

Here’s how you can restart your PC:

  1. First, access the Start Menu on your Taskbar
  2. After that, click on the Power Options tab.
  3. Lastly, choose Restart
Restart Windows

Once done, relaunch Discord to check if the gray screen issue is solved.

3. Run Discord As Admin.

Your system could be blocking Discord from accessing crucial files on your system, which causes the app not to launch. To rule this out, run Discord as an administrator to give it full access to your system.

Follow the guide below to run Discord as an administrator:

  1. On your desktop, right-click on the Discord app.
  2. Next, choose Properties and go to the Compatibility tab.
  3. Finally, enable the ‘Run this Program as an Administrator’ option.

  1. First, press the Windows + R keys on your keyboard to open the Run Command
