How to Fix Flashlight Not Working on iPhone

Having a hard time troubleshooting the issue of the Flashlight not working on iPhone?

One of the greatest advantages of smartphones is that you get multiple gadgets in one. Today, you don’t have to separately carry a calculator, flashlight, timer, notes, and so everywhere you go. All of these functions have their individual apps on your phone.

In fact, many don’t even own these items anymore, and if they do, it’s probably tossed in the attic or some forgotten drawer. But what if your phone starts acting up and the flashlight stops working? The matter gets worse if you have nyctophobia.

It is a common issue reported by numerous Apple users, but luckily, there are as many troubleshooting methods. We’ve covered all of them in detail below to help you resolve the issue quickly.

So without any delay, let’s get straight in!

1. Charge Your iPhone.

One of the most common reasons for the Flashlight not working on iPhone is having a low battery. Enabling the flashlight requires your iPhone to have enough power. If it doesn’t, the feature won’t work. Hence, if you notice your battery is below 20%, it’s best to plug it in immediately.

2. Disable Low Power Mode.

Most iPhone users suffer from quick battery drainage. Although many follow the tips to Maintain iPhone’s Battery Health, the drainage issue persists. This is why ever since the Low Power mode was released, people haven’t stopped utilizing it.

After you enable the mode, your device will block most background activities and features that consume a lot of battery. Flashlight is one of them. Therefore, if you have Low Power mode enabled and have enough charge, it is recommended to disable the mode. Only then will the Flashlight turn on.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Launch the Settings app from your device.

  2. After that, scroll down and tap on Battery.

3. Check If Your iPhone’s Temperature Exceeds.

Sometimes, using your iPhone for an extended period may result in an overheating issue. When this happens, the flashlight may not work to avoid heating up your device even more.

When your iPhone gets too hot, you will receive an alert letting you know that its temperature has exceeded the limit. You will also be unable to use your iPhone until the temperature cools down. If the temperature rises after that, your iPhone will shut down to reduce the temperature.

So, in order to fix this issue, let your iPhone cool down naturally by placing it in a cool environment. Avoid placing it directly into the sunlight as it will cause a rise in the temperature. Once your device cools down, your flashlight issue should be resolved.

Additionally, any time you notice your iPhone’s temperature rising slightly, stop using it for a few minutes to avoid the temperature warning. This will help prevent long-term damage to your battery.

4. Re-Add Flashlight to Control Center.

More often than not, the Flashlight not working on iPhone issue is caused by a glitch. Just like how glitches in the applications are usually eliminated by force quitting and restarting it, try removing Flashlight from the Control Center and adding it back to see if that resolved the problem.

Here are the steps you’ll need to follow:

  1. Open the Settings app from your iPhone.
  2. Next, go to the Control Center.

5. Exit the Camera App.

If you notice the Flashlight icon in Control Center grayed out, there’s a probability that you’re on the Camera app. This is because your phone’s Camera app uses the same Flashlight, hence, it can’t be enabled from two places at the same time.

To get rid of the issue, simply exit the Camera app. Access the Control Center afterward, and you should be able to tap on the Flashlight icon to turn it on.

6. Use the Camera App to Turn On the Flashlight.

If your iPhone’s Control Center is glitching for unknown reasons, don’t fret. You can enable the same Flashlight from the Camera app as well since it uses the same feature. Following this workaround is recommended until the real cause is discovered and fixed.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Go to the Camera app from your home screen.
  2. Next, head to the Video mode by swiping to the left.
  3. Tap on the Flashlight icon from the top left of the screen.

7. Perform A Hard Reset.

Most temporary glitches on iPhones are easily eliminated by restarting your device. But if it doesn’t, try going a step further and performing a hard reset. This is a bit more powerful and is known to fix several bug-related issues that may be rendering certain functions inoperable, such as the Flashlight.

Follow the steps given below to force restart an iPhone:

  1. Begin by holding and then releasing the Volume Up button
  2. Next, hold and release the Volume Down button.
  3. After that, press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.

To do so, perform the following steps:

  1. Head to Settings from your iPhone.
  2. Next, go to General.

9. Reset All Settings.

If nothing else works, try going back to the factory settings. This method does not delete your data unless you choose to Erase All Content and Settings. But this process is a bit time-consuming, so don’t rely on it in case of an emergency when you urgently need the Flashlight turned on.

Here’s what you should do:

  1. From your Settings app, tap on General
  2. Scroll down and select Transfer or Reset iPhone.
