Installing Yandex Browser Through the Terminal. 

There are two ways you can install the Yandex browser. One is using the Terminal, and the other uses the GUI and installs it directly through another browser. We will first explain the steps you need to take to install it using the Terminal

Follow these steps.

  1. Open the Command Terminal. 
  2. First, run the following command to update the Ubuntu repositories. 
$ sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y

  1. Next, you need to install some supporting packages before installing Yandex. There is a good chance that these repositories are already present on your system. However, you should run the following command to cross-check it. 
$ sudo apt install wget apt-transport-https gnupg2 -y
  1. Next, in this step, you need to import the GPG key for Yandex. Run the following command to do exactly that. 
$ sudo wget -O- https://repo.yandex.ru/yandex-browser/YANDEX-BROWSER-KEY.GPG | gpg --dearmor | sudo tee /usr/share/keyrings/yandex.gpg
  1. Now, you can choose between installing the Yandex browser stable version or the beta version. The beta version allows you to try out new features that have been sent out for testing and give error/bug reports. The stable version is free of bugs but doesn’t include the new features. For the stable version.
$ echo deb [arch=amd64 signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/yandex.gpg] http://repo.yandex.ru/yandex-browser/deb stable main | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/yandex-stable.list

  1. For the beta version, use the following command.
$ echo deb [arch=amd64 signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/yandex.gpg] http://repo.yandex.ru/yandex-browser/deb beta main | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/yandex-beta.list

  1. Next, update your repositories again.
$ sudo apt update
  1. Lastly, you can proceed to install the Yandex browser on your Ubuntu system using the following command. 
$ sudo apt install yandex-browser-stable -y

  1. For the beta version.
$ sudo apt install yandex-browser-beta -y

These are the steps if you want to install the Yandex browser using the Terminal.


Installing Yandex Browser Using GUI. 

This is the more straightforward version of installing the Yandex browser. Follow these steps.

  1. Open any web browser of your choice. 
  2. In the search bar or the URL bar, type “Yandex for Ubuntu install”.
  3. You should see the following result pop-up.

  1. You should go to the link as seen in the image above. It will take you to this page. The page has two different options Windows and Linux. Click on the Linux options, as shown in the image below.

  1. Next, click on the link highlighted “Astra, Debian, Deepin…” link under the “Install” heading. You should receive the following message.
  1. Click on the highlighted “Download” link. It should take you to the following page.

  1. Click on the “Other versions” option. You should see a drop-down list similar to the one in the image above. Click on the “deb, x64” link for your Ubuntu system.
  2. You should see the package being installed in your browser’s download tab. 
  3. Open the downloaded package. It should be an installation setup. Install the browser.

Uninstalling Yandex Browser. 

If you feel that the browser is unsuitable for your requirements, you can eliminate it. You can uninstall the browser using both GUI and the Command Terminal. To uninstall the browser using the Terminal, use the following commands.

$ sudo remove yandex

Or,

$ sudo purge yandex
