I like the idea, but I don’t want my bitmoji to stay in one location all the time 24/7 every day just because I don’t go out of my house much.
But again look at it this way..
There’s like a whole wide world to explore and my fellow members of my species to meet, ANNND you can show off to your friends that you’re grabbing a cappuccino at Starbucks for breakfast then dining in luxury by a candle light at a nearby expensive five star Italian restaurant.
Now if you have a lot of followers or even if you have one or two friends, or your mom, chances are they are going to know where you’re going and follow you wherever you go.
Do you really want that?
No of course you don’t.
No one wants their friends (or their mom) to know their real time location. (We have the Find my iPhone feature for that). Hence if you want to know how to turn off Snapchat Snap Maps and go ‘Ghost Mode’ then here’s how.
How to Turn Off Snapchat Snap Maps Feature: 4 Ways
1. Turn Ghost Mode On if you’re just starting off.
If you haven’t already updated to the latest version of Snapchat (version 10.11.0.0) and you’re just about to, then
Step 1: Right after you have updated to the latest version of Snapchat (version 10.11.0.0) which includes the Snap Map feature, all you have to do is just pinch generously the screen to access the Snap Map.
Step 2: Now since this is your first time using Snap Map then you’ll be asked to choose your preferences. Which includes if you haven’t already given Snapchat access to your location data, then you are going to be prompted to do so before continuing.
Step 3: Alright! Then hit Next until you see the choice for who can see your location on the Snap Map. Great, now all you have to is just select Only Me (Ghost Mode) and then hit Next and then finally Finish.
If you don’t want all to share your location to each and every one of your friends but instead just want to cherish the moments with your very best friend(s) or your parents knowing your location then you can do that by choosing Select friends.
This allows you to pick and choose who you exactly want to see your location. Don’t worry if you decide to turn on Ghost Mode after this, your list of selected favorites will stay on for later.
2. Turn Ghost Mode On in your Snap Map.
If you have already chose into location sharing on the initial options page right after you’ve updated (Method 1) but you don’t want to anymore, then..
Step 1: Just pinch the camera screen to enter your Snap Map and from there do you see the Settings (Cog icon) to you top right hand corner? Yeah, hit that and toggle Ghost Mode so that your friends can’t see your location.
Once you have done this your last known location on the Snap Map will be removed and it will prevent it from ever showing up anymore.
Again you have the option if you want to pick and choose who you want to see your location. Just toggle off Ghost Mode and then choose Select Friends to choose exactly which of your friends can see where you are. Don’t worry this list of favorites will remain even if turn on Ghost Mode, which means you don’t have start from scratch later. 🙂
3. Turn Ghost Mode On in your Snapchat’s Settings.
The final way you can edit your Snap Map preferences is by heading to the settings inside of your Snapchat.
Step 1: Just hit the ghost icon that you see in your top left-hand corner (or your very own personalized Bitmoji), then tap on the Settings (Cog icon) to you top right-hand corner of your information page.
Step 2: Sweet! From there you can scroll down to See My Location and select that. Now on the next page just toggle Ghost Mode on and you’re done! 🙂
Again, you have the option to toggle off Ghost Mode and individually pick and choose who you want to see your exact location. Don’t worry your list of selected favourites will not go away once you turn back on your Ghost Mode and it’ll remain until the next time you choose to do so with it.
4. If You Want All Out. Then Just Turn Off Location Access. Period.
If you don’t want Snapchat to have access to your location at all then you can simply turn it off.
This does come with a few downsides and might affect your whole elusive Snapchat experience.
Now if you have chosen to turn off entirely your Snapchat’s access to your location then you won’t be able to use geofilters, or discover stories around you and way more other content.
You also won’t be able to views your Snap Map at all. (Which if you just looking into turning off your Snap Map, then the above methods do the best).
Now if this is what you want then, by all means, keep reading. 🙂
If you have an iPhone
