Fix: iPhone 12 Pro Not Charging With MagSafe Charger

Have you observed if your iPhone 12 Pro is not charging with the MagSafe Charger?

Apple introduced a new wireless charger for iPhone, and it is called the ‘MagSafe Charger’. The MagSafe Charger is designed to charge your iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max quickly but safely. However, in order for it to function properly, it is important to note that you should plug it into a power source first before placing your iPhone on it.

The MagSafe charger has earned positive feedback, but it also had its negative reviews. Countless wireless charging issues had been reported by users since it was introduced. But the most common problem that users found is that the iPhone 12 Pro is not charging with the MagSafe charger

If you are also experiencing this issue, you are not alone! That is why we have gathered a list of methods that you can try to fix this issue. Luckily, one of these will resolve the issue for you.

Let’s dive right in!

1. Place Your Phone On The Center.

To avoid this issue, the first thing you should always check is the orientation of your iPhone. In some cases, the iPhone 12 Pro may not charge because it was not properly centered on top of the MagSafe Charger.

To prevent this, you should always check if your iPhone is charging properly once you have placed it on top of the MagSafe charger. If it is not charging, try moving your iPhone around slowly to find out which is the position where it will begin to charge.

2. Remove The Phone Case.

Since some phone cases are quite thick, this may be one of the factors why your iPhone 12 Pro is not charging with the MagSafe charger. We may use these phone cases to protect our iPhones from any physical damage, but is it worth the cost of not being able to charge with the MagSafe Charger?

Before you decide on what to do, you may try to test this first. Try removing your phone case before you charge your iPhone with the MagSafe Charger. Then monitor if the same problem will come back.

Hopefully, this is all that you need to fix this problem, but don’t panic if it did not make any difference as we are just starting on our recommendations.

3. Restart Or Force Restart Your iPhone.

When you have tried our first two methods but still did not get any positive results, try restarting your iPhone. In some cases, a restart should fix the issue, especially if there is just a malfunction.

However, if it did not work, you can try doing it at least one more time. There are times that one restart doesn’t fix the irregularities on your iPhone, so it’s best to try it again to be certain.

Here’s how you can restart your iPhone:

  1. First, remove your phone case if you have one (optional).
  2. After that, press and hold down the Side or Power button for a few seconds.
  3. Then a red slider prompt will appear, showing ‘slide to power off’. Drag it to the right so your iPhone can be turned off.
  1. Lastly, press and hold the Side or Power button again until you see the Apple logo on the screen. Wait for a few seconds for your iPhone to turn back on.

But if a restart did not work, then try doing a force restart. Some users were able to resolve the issue just by doing this.

But what is a force restart? A force restart, also called a ‘hard reset’, is a hardware-level reset that physically stops your iPhone’s battery from connecting to your phone so that it can turn it off.

Here’s how you can do a force restart:

  1. First, remove your phone case if you have one (optional).
  2. After that, press and quickly release the Volume up button and repeat the same on the Volume down button.

  1. Next, press and hold the Side button to turn off your iPhone.
  2. Lastly, while still pressing the Side button, wait for a few minutes until the Apple logo appears before releasing it.

Once you are done with all of that, check if your issue is now gone. Let us know if it worked, as we’re eager to know!

4. Update iOS Or iPadOS To The Latest Version.

If doing a restart or force restart still did not resolve the problem, then you should update your OS to the latest version, may it be for iOS or iPadOS. If you are still not on iOS 14 or iPadOS 14, then updating will allow the MagSafe Charger to work.

Though you should remember that you should connect your iPhone to a Wi-Fi network beforehand. Also, check if you have at least 50% battery life to prevent any kind of interruptions while you are updating.

Here’s how you can update your iOS or iPadOS to the latest version:

  1. Begin by opening up your iPhone or iPad’s Settings app and tap General.
  2. Next, tap on Software Update to check if there is an available update.

  1. Next, select Install Now to begin the update once an update appears. Note that this may take a few minutes to an hour as it depends on your network connection.
  2. Lastly, wait for a few more minutes for your iPhone or iPad to automatically restart.

With that out of the way, see if your iPhone 12 Pro is still not charging with the MagSafe Charger. Fortunately, an update is what you’ve been waiting for!

5. Try A Different Charger.

If the MagSafe Charger is still not working despite our numerous attempts to make it work, then it’s time to try a different charger. Similar with testing it without a phone case, try charging your iPhone with a different charger to see if it will work.

If it did, then it’s time to get yourself a different charger that will work. Though one challenge is that it may not be easy looking for a legitimate iPhone 12 Pro charger on Amazon. But if you do not know which brand to go to, you can always choose one from Apple’s official shop. It may be more expensive, but if it’s definitely worth it if it can charge your iPhone 12 Pro, right?
