LinkedIn Chat Messaging Not Working? Here’s The Fix!

Can’t communicate with your connections since LinkedIn’s chat messaging is not working?

The built-in messenger on LinkedIn is a pleasant addition to the platform. It allows users to communicate with other professionals without needing to exchange contact information to be able to communicate on another app.

Unfortunately, there are times when the messaging app on LinkedIn refuses to work. If you rely mainly on LinkedIn’s messaging feature to communicate with your connections, it is quite frustrating if the feature does not work properly.

However, you can relax now. Today, we are going to show you a few ways steps to do if LinkedIn’s chat messaging is not working.

Before proceeding with the actual solutions, try to check the status of LinkedIn’s servers first before doing anything on your end.

Now, let’s get started!

1. Disable Browser Extensions.

If you have installed extensions on your browser, then it is possible that the problem with LinkedIn is caused by it. While browser extensions are great for adding extra features to several websites, it can also interfere with how sites and applications work.

Try disabling your browser extensions if the messaging app on LinkedIn is not working.

  1. On your browser, click on the Options button at the top right corner of your screen.
  2. After that, click on the Settings tab.
  3. Inside the Settings, click on the Extensions tab to open it.
  4. Lastly, turn off all the extensions that you’ve installed.

Now that you’ve disabled your browser’s extensions, go back to LinkedIn and try using its chat messaging to see if the problem is already fixed.

2. Turn Off VPN.

VPN services are third-party programs used to secure your connection and identity while browsing the internet. It works by changing the IP address of your device with a dummy one so that users online can’t track your activity.

While VPNs are great for improving security, it can also interfere with the connection of your device to website servers. Since VPN services randomly change your IP, a proper connection can’t be established between LinkedIn’s servers and your browser.

To fix this, try disabling any VPN running on your end when accessing your LinkedIn account.

3. Try A Different Search Browser.

If LinkedIn’s chat messaging is not working on your default browser, try changing things a bit, and use another one. Possibly, your browser is currently having issues with its own servers, which causes it to malfunction.

It is also possible that the browser you are using is not well-optimized for LinkedIn. Since search browsers use different render engines, the way it interprets the code from various websites also differs from one another.

This means that some websites would work without problems on a certain browser, but would function differently on another browser.

Try using another browser to see if the problem goes away. Use popular browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, and Opera, which are highly supported by most website developers.

4. Check and Reset Your Internet.

A slow or unstable network connection could cause a lot of problems when using the internet. If you can’t receive or send messages on LinkedIn, it is possible that your connection is running slow.

To check if this is the case, try running a speed test using Fast.com. It is a reliable tool that measures your internet’s upload and download speed bandwidth.

If your network is indeed unstable, you can fix it by restarting your router. This way, the connection between your internet service provider and your router can be re-established.

Locate the power cable of your router and unplug it from the outlet. Now, allow it to rest for 5 to 10 seconds before turning it on again.

Once your router has restarted, perform another speed test to verify if the problem is already fixed. However, if your internet is still running slow, contact your ISP immediately and have them resolve the issue.

5. Clear Your Browser’s Cache and Cookies.

Another thing to try if LinkedIn’s chat messaging is not working is to reset your browsing data. Temporary files called cache and cookies are stored on your computer to help browsers load previously visited websites faster.

However, caches and cookies can get corrupted over time and cause various problems with some websites.

If messaging is not working on LinkedIn, try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

  1. On your keyboard, press CTRL + H while your browser is open. This will launch the History tab.
  2. Inside the History tab, click on Clear Browsing Data.
  3. Now, make sure the ‘Cached Images and Files’ and ‘Cookies and Other Site Data’ is selected.
  4. Lastly, click on the Clear Data button to start the process.

6. Change Your DNS.

One of the most important components of the internet is DNS or Domain Name System. It is a system that merges the IP address of websites to readable words like Google.com, Facebook.com, and Saintlad.com.

If LinkedIn’s messaging page is not loading at all, try to change your default DNS. Possibly, your ISP’s DNS server is currently having issues, which causes some websites and their function not to work properly.
