Method 1: Directly Opening with LibreOffice.

With that being said, it might not always be optimal to import PPTX files to LibreOffice directly. The reason is that doing so might mess up the project if LibreOffice Impress doesn’t fully support the version you’re trying to import.

- First of all, you’d have to open the LibreOffice Impress application. To do so, you can search for ‘Impress’ in the Applications menu.

- Then, a window should open where you need to select ODP as the file type and hit Save.
Now that you have converted your Microsoft Powerpoint file into a LibreOffice Impress file, you can work on it anytime you want. However, if LibreOffice doesn’t open your file correctly, it means that you’d have to resort to our second method.
Method 2: Converting from PPTX to ODP using Google Drive.
Although it usually is the case that LibreOffice is able to open PPTX files, there are chances of running into issues if you’re working with an unsupported file version. Because of this, the formatting of your document might get ruined.
If you’ve also run into such an issue, you need not worry. There’s a way with which you can open your PPTX file in LibreOffice Impress without any formatting issues. Now that you have a Gmail account, let’s see the steps:
- The first thing you have to do is open the web browser of your choice and log into your Google Drive account.
- When the web application opens, you need to click on the ‘+ New’ button, which should be located on the top-left side of the browser window.
- Afterward, you’d have to opt for the ‘File Upload’ option. A window should appear where you’ll have to navigate to the file of your choice and open it.
- With this, the file should start getting uploaded on your Google Drive account. And, when it does, you’ll note that it will be automatically converted to a Google Docs file.
- However, if the conversion doesn’t take place, enabling the ‘automatic conversion’ option in the Google Drive settings should do.
- Next, you’ll have to double-click the file to open it in Google Sheets. Once it does, the next thing to do is clicking the File button, hovering over ‘Download’, and clicking the ODP Document option.
- Once this file has downloaded on your machine, you can now open it on the LibreOffice Impress application. You’ll note that the file has opened correctly this time.
Although Google Drive doesn’t have anything to do with LibreOffice, we can see how it can still help with converting PPTX files into the ODP format. Because of this, it is possible to open Microsoft Powerpoint files in LibreOffice Impress without messing up any formatting.
