1. Check for Water Damage.
When water leaks inside your Powerbeats 3, you should not charge it right away to avoid a short-circuit. Your earphone is indeed water-resistant but it is not water-proof. That means that you should not expose them to the constant flow of water or sweat. So make sure to wipe it dry with a microfiber cloth and leave it in a dry place. If you are living in a cold area, make sure to leave it in a warm and dry area.
But if you suspect that water has reached the internal parts of your Powerbeats 3, you need to do more to dry it out. Submerge your device in a pile of rice for a day so it will absorb the moisture. After that, clean it with a soft-bristle brush and microfiber cloth. Now you should be able to charge your Powerbeats 3 successfully.
2. Restart Device using the Remote.
Your Powerbeats 3 is like any other devices that have limited resources. It tends to get overloaded quickly and this is when problems happen.
If it starts to get laggy or does not work correctly, you will need to do a restart process. This will offload the device resources so you can load new tasks.
You can do this process by using the remote of your Powerbeats 3. Here’s how to do it:
- Press and hold the Mute button (center remote button) together with the Power button.
- Do not release these buttons until your Powerbeats 3 turns back on.
- After that, charge your device using the charger.
3. Force Restart the Device.
If the restart process using the remote did not work, you can always do the force restart instead.
To do that, press and hold the Power button of your Powerbeats 3 until it turns off. Give it a minute to rest and then press it again to turn it on.
Once it is on, try to connect it to the charger. You should be able to charge it successfully this time.
4. Reset the Device.
Sometimes this problem happens when the settings of your Powerbeats 3 get corrupted. Corruption may be caused by sudden disconnection, failed update, or other abnormal process interruptions.
In order to fix this, you need to restore the settings to its default factory state to remove the corrupted settings.
To do this, press and hold the volume down button together with the Power button. Do not release these buttons until you see a flashing light.
This will remove all existing connection profiles so you need to pair them up again with your Apple device. After that, you should be able to charge it with no issues.
5. Check the Charger.
Make sure that you are using the authentic Powerbeats 3 charger that came in when you bought it. If it doesn’t work, check if there are damages on the charger.
Note, that sometimes the damage can be internal.
To check, charge your device using another authentic charger that you can borrow from friends.
Also, make sure that the power outlet you are using is working. Check it by plugging in your appliance and turn it on. It is also important that your power source is stable.
Power fluctuations can damage your charger while it is plugged into the outlet. For the damaged charger, proceed to the last method of this guide for replacement options.
6. Drain the Battery.
There is a workaround you can try that other Powerbeats 3 users did. Apparently, draining your battery to zero can help with the charging process. To do this, leave your Powerbeats 3 turned on for a day or two until it turns off on its own. Then, to be sure, leave it in a dry place for a week or two to drain the battery all the way to zero. After that, charge it using your authentic Powerbeats 3 charger.
7. Update Firmware to the Latest Version.
The application and OS of the device paired with your Powerbeats 3 have to be in the latest version. When your Powerbeats 3 firmware is outdated, bugs and glitches can occur.
To fix this, you will need to update your firmware to the latest version.
Here’s how you can do it:
- Go ahead and download the Beats Updater app on your computer.
- Then, install and launch the Beats Updater app.
- Next, turn on your Powerbeats 3 and connect it to your computer via a lightning USB cable.
- Now, click the Menu option in the Beats updater app and then click on the status icon.
- Then, click the name of your Powerbeats to redirect to the updater website.
- Finally, click on the Update option and follow the rest of the instructions to complete the process.
After updating your firmware, you have applied the latest bug fix to your device. Charging issues caused by glitches in your firmware is now removed. You should be able to charge the device successfully.
8. Forget the Device in Bluetooth Settings.
Another workaround that works for other Powerbeats 3 users is removing the Bluetooth connection profile. This can disable any data transmission between your devices so your device can focus on charging.
The fewer tasks your Powerbeats 3 performs the better it focuses on a single process.
Here’s how you can do it:
- Go ahead and open the Settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch where your Powerbeats 3 is paired.
- Then, tap on Bluetooth, and then tap on the ( i ) icon next to your Powerbeats 3.
- Now, tap the Forget This Device option and then tap Confirm.
- Finally, charge your Powerbeats 3 using your authentic charger.
You should be able to charge your Powerbeats 3 now until the battery is full. The LED indicator will have a solid white (or green) once the battery is fully charged. After that, you can pair your Powerbeats 3 with your Apple device.
