How to Prevent Users from Uninstalling Applications from Start Menu in Windows 10?

The Start menu in Windows is an easy way to access your favorite apps with a single click. All you need to do is type the application’s name, and you will be presented with quite a few options such as Open, Run as administrator, and even Uninstall.

While this is a great feature that allows users to perform their desired action in one click, it comes with its own challenges. For instance, if multiple users use your PC, it gives everyone the liberty to uninstall applications. In this case, it is best to limit the options offered by the Start menu.

If you are looking to prevent the users from uninstalling applications from the Start menu, you are at the right place.

We have listed some of the easiest and quickest solutions to do so, hopefully helping you disable the uninstall feature from the Start menu.

Let’s dive right in.

1. Use Windows Registry.

The first way to prevent the users from uninstalling applications from the Start menu in Windows 10 is by making changes in the Windows Registry.

Windows Registry stores critical information about the system and its relevant programs. It also helps users tweak Windows and its operations according to their preferences, which is why we recommend making changes in the Registry to resolve the issue under discussion.

However, we strictly advise you to perform the steps mentioned below with caution as if the critical information is damaged, and Windows will be unable to launch certain programs.

Here is what you need to do:

  1. Launch a Run dialogue box by pressing Windows + R keys simultaneously.
  2. Type ‘regedit.msc’ in the text field of the dialogue box and hit Enter
  3. Doing so will launch Windows Registry. Now navigate to the location mentioned below.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
  1. Inside the Explorer window, right-click anywhere on the screen and select New
  2. Now click on DWORD (32-bit) Value and name this value as NoUninstallFromStart
Window Registry Editor
  1. Double-click on the newly created value, and under Value data, type 1
