How to Fix Runtime Error on Roblox

Can’t figure out why you see a runtime error when launching Roblox?

While Roblox is a stable platform, it doesn’t mean that it won’t run into errors at some point. One of the most common issues on Roblox is the runtime error. 

The runtime error on Roblox occurs due to an outage or crash on the server-side. So if you see this error message on your end, it’s likely that Roblox’s team is already aware of the issue and is working to fix it. 

However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t try a few troubleshooting techniques on your end to alleviate the issue.

In some cases, the runtime error on Roblox can also be due to unstable network connections, improper system settings, or corrupted files. 

To help you out, we’ve decided to make a guide for fixing the runtime error on Roblox. 

Let’s get started!

1. Check Roblox Servers. 

As mentioned above, the runtime error on Roblox is often caused by an error on the servers. To confirm this, you can use third-party sites such as Downdetector to check any reported issues with Roblox’s servers. 

If the platform’s servers are down, there’s nothing you can do that would fix the problem with Roblox’s servers. 

On the other hand, you can proceed to the next method to start troubleshooting if Roblox’s servers are up and running. 

2. Restart Your Computer. 

One of the quickest ways to address the runtime error on Roblox is restarting your system. This should reset your resources, which may have gotten corrupted during use, causing Roblox and other apps to malfunction. 

Here’s what you need to do to restart your computer: 

1. First, open the Start Menu on the Taskbar. 
2. Next, click on the Power Options tab. 
3. Lastly, choose Restart. 

After rebooting your computer, try launching Roblox to check if the runtime error is fixed. 

3. Check Your Network Connection. 

The runtime error on Roblox can also occur if the platform can’t communicate with its servers due to a slow or unstable network. To check if your connection is causing the issue, run a speed test using Fast.com to measure your network’s current bandwidth. 

If the test shows that your network is the culprit, reboot your router to re-establish the connection with your ISP’s servers. Unplug your modem or router from the power source and wait for 5 to 10 seconds before reconnecting it. 

Once done, run another test to see if the problem is solved. If not, contact your ISP and ask them to fix their service.

4. Turn Off Your VPN. 

Third-party VPNs could also be the reason for the runtime error on Roblox. While VPNs protect your network and data, not all of them work the same, and some could even affect your network’s performance. 

If you keep seeing the runtime error on Roblox, we suggest disabling your VPN first before accessing the platform. 

On the other hand, you can try switching to a reputable provider such as PureVPN if you don’t want to turn off your VPN. Compared to other services, PureVPN keeps your network stable while keeping your data safe. 

5. Flush Your DNS. 

You can also try flushing your DNS if you encounter the runtime error on Roblox. Your DNS data may have gotten corrupted, which affects the performance and quality of your connection. 

To fix this, follow the guide below to flush your DNS using the Command Prompt: 

1. On your keyboard, press the Windows + X keys to access the Quick Menu. 
2. Now, click on Command Prompt (Admin) to launch CMD with administrative privileges. 
3. Finally, type ‘ipconfig /flushdns’ and hit Enter to execute the command. 

After flushing your DNS, try to launch Roblox again to see if the problem is solved. 

6. Check Your Firewall. 

Windows has a feature called Windows Defender Firewall that controls the access of applications to the internet. If you can’t launch Roblox due to the runtime error, try to check your firewall and ensure that Roblox has access to your network. 

See the steps below to check your Windows Firewall settings: 

1. First, go to the Windows Settings on your computer.
2. After that, click on Update & Security and access the Windows Security tab. 
3. Now, click on Firewall & Network Protection and select Allow an App Through Firewall. 
4. Lastly, locate Roblox and ensure that it can access both your Public and Private Networks. 

Once done, restart your computer and try opening Roblox to check if the runtime error would still occur. 

7. Change Your DNS. 

If you still encounter the runtime error when launching Roblox, the last thing that you can do is to change your DNS. Your ISP’s default DNS could be experiencing technical issues at the moment, which causes connectivity problems. 

Here’s how you can change your DNS on Windows: 

1. On your computer, right-click on the network icon on the Taskbar. 
2. After that, choose Open Network & Internet Settings. 
3. Now, click on Change Adapter Options and right-click on your current network.
4. Select Properties from the options menu and double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). 
5. Finally, enable the Use the Following DNS option and input the following values: 

• Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8
• Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4

Once done, save the changes and restart your computer. 

Go to Roblox once again and check if the runtime error still occurs when you launch a map or game.
