How to Save and Convert WEBP to PNG in Windows 10?

Wondering how to save and convert WEBP to PNG in Windows 10?

WEBP is a unique image format that is designed to create smaller yet better-looking images than the other commonly used formats like JPEG and PNG. It was launched way back in 2010 and offers a better package than most formats.

However, despite all the interesting features and versatility, it is still not supported by several image tools and browsers, which can be a real bummer. Its incompatibility is one of the main reasons why users prefer sticking to formats like PNG.

If you too have images in the WEBP format but are having a hard time finding compatible apps or browsers for it, it is best to convert them in PNG since it is a popular choice. There are several ways to convert images, and we have listed some of the easiest methods to do so below.

Let’s dive right in!

1. Use Command Prompt.

Command Prompt is a program that is used to perform advanced administrative functions within the operating system. It also is a safe place to make changes within Windows according to your requirements, and if you are looking for ways to save or convert WEBP to PNG, we recommend using Command Prompt for that purpose.

Command Prompt will allow you to convert images into any format of your choice easily.

Here is how you can do it:

  1. The first step is to download the libwebp codec provided by Google. Doing so will allow you to convert WEBP into PNG using Command Prompt. Make sure to choose the latest one at the bottom of the window.

  1. Once it is downloaded, you can extract it.
  2. Now type cmd in the search bar and click on Run as administrator to launch elevated Command Prompt.
  3. Inside the Command Prompt window, change the directory to the location with the WEBP files you want to convert. For instance, in our case, the file that we wanted to convert was located on the desktop, so we added the command mentioned below.
cd desktop
  1. Next, open the extracted lipwebp codec folder and click on bin. You will notice several files with a .exe extension. We will use the dwebp.exe file in this article.
  2. Copy the path for the dwebp.exe file and paste it in Command Prompt. Don’t forget to add the name of the image as shown below.

In this case, the best solution is to deep clean your PC to eliminate the corruption errors, and while this can be done both automatically and manually, we suggest using CleanMyPC to do so.
