How to Fix Stuck in Hibernate or Sleep Mode on Windows

PC stuck in Hibernate or Sleep mode on Windows?

Windows offers the Sleep or Hibernate mode for when you’re away from the computer for a quick break. Both are used interchangeably with only a slight difference. Sleep mode puts all your PC components to sleep except for the RAM, whereas Hibernate is similar to Shut Down, except that it restarts the system a bit faster.

Now imagine you want to save your computer’s power while you’re away without having to shut it down. So, you put it on Sleep or Hibernate mode, only to get back to a blank or stuck screen.

Not only are you stuck with a computer that won’t turn back on no matter which key you press, but there’s a high risk of losing your unsaved data. If you regularly encounter the PC stuck in Hibernate or Sleep mode on Windows, you’ve landed on the right page. We’ve covered in detail all the possible fixes for this issue.

So what’s the wait for? Let’s get right to it!

1. Disconnect All Peripherals and Restart the PC.

If you use external devices or peripherals like a keyboard, mouse, USB drive, speakers, and so on, disconnect them all when your computer gets stuck in Hibernate or Sleep mode on Windows. Sometimes, such devices may interfere with the startup process, causing the stated error.

  1. Launch the Run dialog box by pressing Win + R keys
  2. Enter ‘devmgmt.msc’ and press the Enter key to open Device Manager
  3. Locate and select Keyboard to expand it.
