Is Telegram not working on your Mac?
Telegram is one of the leading messaging platforms in the world, with over 200 million subscribers. Although it is considered to be one of the best, this doesn’t mean that the platform is flawless.
Besides the dedicated mobile app, Telegram is also available for macOS. This gives users more options on how they can access their accounts.
Unfortunately, the Telegram app for Mac isn’t perfect as well. This means that you could also encounter issues while using the Telegram app for macOS.
Recently, users have been complaining that Telegram is not working on their Mac computers.
Based on the reports, some users are having a hard time accessing conversations on the app. However, there are also users who can’t access the app entirely on their MacBooks.
Usually, this problem is caused by server-related issues. On the other hand, it can also be due to slow network connections, corrupted app data, improper user configurations, or outdated versions of the app.
Today, we will show you how to fix Telegram if it’s not working correctly on Mac.
Let’s jump right in!
1. Check Telegram Servers.
If you can’t access Telegram on your Mac, the first thing you should do is check the platform’s servers. Telegram’s team could be performing system maintenance on the servers, or there are ongoing issues on the platform.
You can use third-party websites like Downdetector to view the current status of Telegram’s servers.
If there are ongoing issues on Telegram, the best thing you can do is wait. Unfortunately, any changes made on your device won’t help the current status of the servers.
On the other hand, you can head to the next solution below if Telegram’s servers are online.
2. Restart Your Mac.
Before changing your configurations, we suggest restarting your Mac if Telegram is not working correctly. This should reload your system resources and eliminate temporary bugs and glitches in your system.
Here’s how you can restart your Mac:
- First, open the Apple Menu in the upper left corner of your display.
- After that, click on the Restart option from the drop-down menu.
- Lastly, click Restart again to confirm your action.
Once done, go back to Telegram to check if the problem is solved.
3. Check Your Network.
Since Telegram is an online service, you’ll need a stable internet to enjoy its features. If the service is not working properly on your Mac, it might indicate an issue with your network connection.
Perform a speed test on your network using Fast.com to measure its current upload and download bandwidth.
If the result indicates a problem with your network, reboot your modem or router to re-establish the connection with your service provider. Unplug your router from the power source and wait for at least five seconds before reconnecting it.
Once done, re-run the test to check if the problem is solved. If not, contact your ISP and ask them to fix the issue.
4. Reinstall Telegram.
If you still can’t open Telegram on your Mac, we suggest reinstalling it. This should ensure that you have the latest working version of Telegram and there are no corrupted or missing files on your system.
Check out our guide to uninstall Telegram:
- First, access the Finder on your Mac.
- Now, go to the Applications folder and locate Telegram.
- Lastly, drag Telegram to the trash to remove it.
Reinstall Telegram afterward and check if the problem is solved.
5. Contact Telegram Support.
At this point, the last thing you can do is let the professionals handle the situation.
Go to Telegram’s Support page and contact their team to report the issue you’ve been experiencing on the platform. When asking for help, include your account details on the report to speed up the process.
