How to Fix Telegram Web App Not Working

Have a hard time accessing your messages since the Telegram web app is not working on your computer?

Telegram is a free online messaging service available for multiple devices. Besides the various operating systems it supports, Telegram also has a dedicated web app that can work on any web browser.

Due to its multi-platform support, many people prefer using Telegram than Viber, WhatsApp, and other messaging services.

However, this doesn’t mean that Telegram is flawless.

Like other services and apps, Telegram may suffer from occasional downtimes and random errors.

If you are reading this, we can safely assume that Telegram’s web app is not working on your browser. Most of the time, server outages and slow network connections are the culprit for this issue.

On the other hand, it can also be due to improper configurations, outdated browsers, or corrupted data.

To help out, we’ve decided to make a guide for fixing the Telegram web app if it’s not working.

Let’s get started!

1. Check Telegram Servers.

When you encounter issues on Telegram, it is usually caused by server-related problems. Due to this, we recommend checking the servers first before changing anything on your browser or computer.

You can use third-party websites like Downdetector to view the current status of Telegram’s servers.

If there are ongoing issues with the service, the best thing to do is wait. Unfortunately, server-related problems can’t be resolved on your end.

On the other hand, you can head to the next solution below if Telegram’s servers are fine.

2. Restart Your Computer.

Your system may have run into a temporary bug or glitch that caused your browser and Telegram to malfunction. To rule this out, try restarting your system to reload its resources and eliminate errors.

For Windows users, check out the steps below to restart it:

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key to open the Start Menu
  2. Next, access the Power Options tab.
  3. Finally, choose Restart to reboot your system.
Restart Windows

On macOS computers, here’s how you can restart it:

  1. Access the Apple Menu by clicking the Apple icon in the upper left corner of your display.
  2. Now, choose the Restart option from the pop-up menu.
  3. Lastly, click Restart again to confirm your action.

Go back to Telegram after restarting your system and check if the problem is solved.

3. Check Your Network Connection.

If Telegram’s web app is not loading at all, it might indicate an issue with your network connection. To confirm this, perform a test using Fast.com to measure your network’s upload and download bandwidth.

Speed Test

If the test shows that your connection is the problem, restart your modem or router to re-establish the link between your ISP’s servers and your device.

Unplug your device from the outlet and wait for 5 to 10 seconds before reconnecting it.

Restart Router

Once done, re-run the test on your network to check if it’s working correctly. If not, report the issue to your ISP and ask them to fix the issue.

4. Clear Your Browsing Data.

Browsers stores temporary data on your device, which are used to improve the loading times of websites. These data are called caches and cookies. While they help improve your browser’s performance, caches and cookies could accumulate over time and become corrupted.

When this happens, your browser might run into errors while loading websites. To fix this, see the guide below to clear your browsing data:

  1. Launch your preferred browser and open the Settings
  2. Now, scroll down to Privacy and Security and click on Clear Browsing Data
  3. After that, change the target Time Range to All Time and include caches and cookies in the process.
  4. Finally, click the Clear Data button.

Re-login to your Telegram account afterward and check if the problem is solved.

5. Try the Mobile App.

If you have access to your mobile device, we suggest checking the dedicated mobile app of Telegram to see if it works. The issue might be isolated to the web app, which should allow you to access your messages on other platforms.

Head to the final solution below if you are able to access Telegram on other platforms to report the issue.

6. Turn Off VPN.

Virtual private networks are third-party services that protect your network and data from hackers and other entities. They work by filtering your activity and masking your default IP address to keep your identity private.

However, this process could cause interruptions and instability to your network. If you can’t access Telegram’s web app, turn off your VPN first.

PureVPN

You can also try switching to a much more reliable service like PureVPN if you are not comfortable going online without protection. PureVPN uses high-speed servers to ensure fast and secure connections.

7. Disable Browser Extensions.

Browser extensions are mini-applications that provide additional features to websites you visit. While they work great most of the time, not all sites are compatible with them.

If you can’t access the Telegram web app, try disabling your extensions.

  1. On your browser, click on More Options and access the Settings
  2. Now, click on the Extensions tab from the side menu.
  3. Finally, disable your extensions and restart your browser.

Go back to Telegram afterward to check if the problem is solved.

8. Contact Telegram.

If none of the solutions above worked for you, we recommend letting the professionals handle the situation.

Go to Telegram’s Support page and get in touch with their team to report the issue you’ve been experiencing with the Telegram web app. Provide a screenshot of the error, your account details, and the browser you’re using to help Telegram assess the situation faster.
