How to Fix Twitch Extensions Not Working

Can’t stream on your channel due to Twitch extensions not working?

Besides the raw capability and features of Twitch, you can further enhance your experience through extensions. With over 200 extensions on the platform, Twitch is one of the best places to broadcast your content.

While there are hundreds of extensions for Twitch, you can only use six during your streams. This number may appear small, but it makes a huge difference in your content.

Unfortunately, there have been reports from streamers who are struggling to get their Twitch extensions to work.

Based on the reports, their preferred extensions are not showing up on the creator page, hindering their ability to stream. This can be a problem for streamers who has commitments and sponsorships to stream daily on the platform.

Usually, Twitch extensions that are not working are caused by faulty or offline servers. Twitch’s team could be performing maintenance on the servers, or an unexpected error occurred.

On the other hand, this issue can also be due to slow network connections, incompatible browsers, or corrupted data.

Today, we’ll show you what to do if your Twitch extensions are not working.

Let’s dive right in!

1. Check Twitch Servers.

When you encounter issues on Twitch, the first thing you should check is the servers. Since Twitch is an online service, it relies on its servers to deliver content. Fortunately, Twitch has a dedicated status page where you can view the platform’s situation.

If there are ongoing issues on Twitch, the only thing you can do is wait since server-related problems can’t be resolved on your end.

On the other hand, you can start doing the suggested methods below if there’s nothing wrong with the servers.

2. Restart Your Device.

One of the simplest ways to resolve most issues on any platform is to restart your device. This gives your system the chance to reload its resources and eliminate temporary errors that have occurred during use.

You can restart your Windows PC by doing the following:

  1. On your keyboard, hit the Windows key to open the Start Menu
  2. Now, click on the Power Options tab.
  3. Finally, choose Restart to reboot your system.

Go back to Twitch afterward to check if the problem is solved.

3. Check Your Network Connection.

Streaming content online requires a stable connection. If your Twitch extensions are not working, it may indicate an issue with your internet. To confirm this, run a test using Fast.com to measure your network’s bandwidth.

Speed Test

If the test result shows that your connection is the culprit, restart your router to re-establish the link between your modem and your provider’s servers. Unplug your router from the outlet and wait for 5 to 10 seconds before reconnecting it.

Restart Router

Once done, perform another test to check if the problem is solved. If not, contact your ISP and ask them to fix the issue.

4. Clear Your Browsing Data.

Browsers store temporary data on your device called caches and cookies. These data are used to speed up loading times of websites and enhance their overall performance. However, caches and cookies accumulate over time and could become corrupted.

If your extensions are not working, follow the steps below to clear your browsing data:

  1. On your browser, click on More and choose Settings
  2. Next, go to Privacy and Security and click on Clear Browsing Data
  3. Change the Time Range to All Time and include caches and cookies in the process.
  4. Finally, click the Clear Data button.

After clearing your browsing data, re-login to your account and check if Twitch extensions are working.

5. Use Twitch Client.

If you can’t use your extensions using the Twitch website, we recommend switching to the dedicated desktop app. Twitch’s separate client should work better when streaming since it’s more optimized for your operating system.

The issue might also be isolated on the website, which means that you won’t encounter it using the Twitch app.

6. Disable Your Antivirus.

Third-party antivirus could also be the reason your Twitch extensions are not working. While antivirus programs work great for keeping your system safe, they can also pose issues to other applications.

Unfortunately, some antiviruses get overprotective and flag legitimate applications and restrict their access to your system.

To avoid this, turn off your antivirus before streaming on Twitch.

On the other hand, you can also try adding Twitch to your antivirus’ safe list or allowlist if it has that feature.

7. Contact Twitch Support.

If none of the solutions above worked for you, we recommend letting the experts handle the situation.

Visit Twitch’s Support page and contact their customer support to report the issue with your account. Provide your account details, the extensions you’re using, and other necessary information that can help speed up the process.
