Trying to figure out how to fix update issues on Apex Legends?

Apex Legends is EA’s latest offering for the battle royale genre. After its release in 2019, the game has established itself as one of the most popular FPS titles in the market with over 70 million registered players worldwide.

The game even won the best multiplayer game award from The Game Awards in 2019, less than a year from its release.

Despite its current status, Apex Legends is not perfect just like any application or game.

If you’re reading this you are probably one of the many users who encounter update issues on Apex Legends. Unfortunately, this problem has been around since the game was released and many players still experience it.

Based on what we know, there are a handful of reasons why this issue occurs. It can be related to your system configuration, network connection, storage, or Apex Legends’ servers.

To help you out, we’ve decided to make a guide for fixing update issues on Apex Legends.

Let’s get right into it!

1. Check Apex Legends Servers.

Before tweaking your system, the first thing you should do if you can’t update Apex Legends is to check where the issue is coming from. You can do this by visiting the game’s Help Center to see the game’s current status

If there’s an issue with the servers, you don’t have to do anything but wait. On the other hand, proceed to the next solution below if Apex Legends’ servers are working fine.

2. Restart Your Computer.

If you run into update issues on Apex Legends, restarting your system would be the best initial step to do. This should allow your computer to reload its resources and clear Apex Legends’ temporary files.

Here’s how you can reboot your PC:

  1. First, open the Start Menu on your Taskbar
  2. Next, go to the Power Options tab.
  3. Lastly, choose Restart to reboot your operating system.

Try updating Apex Legends afterward to check if the problem is solved.

3. Verify Your Game Files.

When you install an update, it replaces the old files with a newer version to patch errors and other glitches. However, if you run into update issues on Apex Legends, it may indicate that some of your game files are broken or missing, explaining why the patch fails to install.

To fix this, repair your game files first before updating the game.

For Steam users, check out the guide below to repair Apex Legends’ game files:

  1. On your PC, open Steam and access your Steam Library
  2. After that, right-click on Apex Legends and choose Properties
  3. Finally, go to Local Files and click the Verify Integrity of Game Files button.

Once done, restart Steam or Origin and see if you can update Apex Legends.

4. Check Your Network Connection.

A slow internet connection could also cause game updates to fail. Since you’re downloading data from the internet, a stable network is required to avoid issues. To check if your connection causes the issue, run a test using Fast.com to measure its current speed.

Test Network Connection

If the test confirms that your network is the culprit, unplug your router from the outlet and wait for a few seconds before plugging it back in.

This should re-establish the connection between your modem and your ISP’s servers.

Restart Modem or Router

Run another test after restarting your network to check if the problem is solved. Contact your provider if you continue to experience connection issues and ask them to fix their service.

5. Run Steam or Origin as Admin.

Steam or Origin may not have the proper permissions to make changes to your system, which causes updates to fail. To fix this, run Steam or Origin as an administrator to bypass restrictions on Windows.

Follow the steps below to run your launcher as an admin:

  1. First, locate Steam or Origin on your desktop.
  2. After that, right-click on their icon and choose Properties
  3. Now, go to the Compatibility tab and enable the ‘Run this Program as an Administrator’ option.
  4. Lastly, click OK to save the changes.
