1. Restart Riot Client

If you encounter problems with downloading, updating, or installing, restarting the game client is always a good first step.

1. Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC on your keyboard to open the Task Manager. 

2. Go to Processes and find Riot Client from the list. 

3. Click on Riot Client, then hit the End Task button in the lower right corner. 

4. Ensure the Riot Client isn’t running. Click the Show Hidden Icons button in the lower right corner of your screen to check if the Riot Client is still running. 

5. Once the client is fully closed, relaunch it and try updating Valorant. 

2. Check Your Storage

You’ll encounter problems updating any software if your system is out of storage space. Make sure that your computer still has enough storage to accommodate Valorant’s update. 

To check how much storage space you have left, open This PC from your desktop and look under Devices and Drives. 

3. Run Riot Client As Administrator

2. Select Open Network & Internet Settings. 

3. Click on Change Adapter Options.

4. On the new window, right-click your current network, then go to Properties. 

5. Double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

6. Select the Use the following DNS server addresses option, then use the following DNS server addresses: 

Preferred DNS Server: 8.8.8.8

Alternate DNS Server: 8.8.4.4

7. Click OK to save the changes. 

7. Temporarily Disable the Windows Firewall

Windows Firewall could be interfering with the Riot Client, preventing it from downloading necessary update files. Try disabling Windows Firewall to see if the update will push through. 

1. Press the Windows icon on your keyboard to open the Start Menu. 
2. Search for Windows Defender Firewall. 
3. Click on Open. 

4. On the left-hand menu, click on Turn Windows Defender Firewall On or Off. 

5. Select Turn Off Windows Defender Firewall for private and public networks. 

6. Click OK to save the changes. 

8. Allow Riot Client Through Your Firewall

Disabling Windows Firewall can expose your system to security risks. Instead, allow the Riot Client through your firewall to enable it to access the internet and download the required update files.

1. Press the Windows icon on your keyboard to open the Start Menu. 
2. Search for Windows Defender Firewall. 
3. Click on Open. 

4. On the left-hand menu, click on Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall.
