Voice Chat Not Working on PS4 or PS5? Here’s the Fix!

Wondering why voice chat is not working on your PS4 or PS5?

When playing an online multiplayer game such as Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite, or Apex Legends, communication plays a vital role in your team’s success. The slightest delay to intel regarding the location of your enemy could possibly cause you the game.

With this, your voice chat on PS4 or PS5 must always work during online sessions with your friends.

However, several Playstation users have been reporting that their voice chats are not working correctly.

We did some digging and found out that the most common cause of this problem is faulty PSN servers and unstable network connections. On the other hand, improper configurations and outdated software could also be the reason behind this issue.

If your voice chat is also not working on the PS4 or PS5, you’re in luck.

Today, we will show you how to fix your voice chat if it is not working on your PS4 or PS5.

Let’s get right into it!

1. Check PSN’s Servers.

As we have mentioned, faulty PSN servers are the most common culprit for this issue on the PS4 or PS5. In this case, we highly recommend that you check the status of PSN’s services first before making any changes to your device.

To check the status of Playstation Network, visit their dedicated status page and see if there are reported problems with the “Gaming and Social” service.

If the service is down, the only thing you can do now is waiting for their team to resolve the issue. On the other hand, you can proceed to the rest of the methods below if there’s nothing wrong with PSN’s servers.

2. Update Your PS4 or PS5.

Like any other device, Playstation consoles require occasional updates to ensure their features are working correctly. If you are having a hard time using your PS4 or PS5’s integrated voice chat, try to update your console’s software.

For the PS4, you can update its system by doing the following:

  1. First, go to the Settings and open the System Software Update tab.
Update PS4
  1. After that, select the Update Now button.
  2. Lastly, press the O or X button on your DS4 controller to confirm your action.

If you are using a PS5, here’s what you need to do:

  1. On your console, access the Settings and navigate to Systems > System Software > System Software Update and Settings
  2. After that, select the Update System Software option.
  3. Finally, click on Update Using Internet and follow the on-screen prompts to update your PS5

7. Prioritize Party or Game Chat.

Depending on your activity, you may want to switch between prioritizing party or game chat on your Playstation. If you are casually talking with your friends on a voice chat, you can prioritize party chat.

On the other hand, you can switch over to game chat once your game begins. It may need some work but it can definitely change the quality of your voice chats.

Follow the steps below to change between party or game chat:

  1. First, go to the Party tab on your Playstation
  2. After that, access Party Settings and select Chat Audio
  3. Lastly, choose between Prioritize Party Chat or Prioritize Game Chat

After changing your settings, disconnect from your current party and re-join afterward. Try using the voice chat for a few minutes to check if the problem would still occur.

8. Report the Problem to Playstation.

If none of the steps above worked out for you, we recommend that you step aside and let the experts take over.

Go to Playstation’s official support page and ask for the assistance of their customer service representative. Elaborate on the problem you’ve been experiencing with Playstation’s voice chat and provide all the necessary details such as your account information and the model of your console.
