How to Fix Windows 11 Won’t Wake Up From Sleep

Can’t figure out why your Windows 11 computer won’t wake up from sleep when moving the mouse or pressing the keyboard?

Windows 11 introduced several changes and overhauled the entire experience of our favorite operating system. However, it does come with its own issues.

As a new software, occasional errors, and problems are expected to come up.

Recently, users have been complaining that their computers won’t wake up from sleep. This gives them no choice but to force restart their computers and potentially lose unsaved files and documents.

Today, we’ll show you how to resolve this problem on your Windows 11 computer.

Let’s jump right in!

1. Reconnect Your Devices.

The most common way to solve this issue is to reconnect your peripherals. If force restarting is not an option since you have unsaved progress, disconnecting the mouse or keyboard for a few seconds might work.

  1. Unplug the USB cable for your mouse or keyboard.
  2. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  3. Reconnect your mouse or keyboard.

Try pressing any keys or moving the mouse to see if your computer will wake up.

2. Check Your Configurations.

There’s an option on Windows 11 that allows you to decide whether your keyboard or mouse can wake up your computer.

If the feature is disabled, it explains why your computer won’t wake up when moving the mouse or pressing the keyboard.

Follow the steps below to check your settings:

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard to open the Start Menu
  2. Look for the Device Manager and open it.

3. Update Your Drivers.

Device drivers allow your system to control the hardware installed on your computer.

If your mouse and keyboard drivers are corrupted, you can encounter issues with the wake function.

To rule this out, follow the guide below to update your drivers:

  1. Open the Start Menu by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard.
  2. After that, look for Device Manager and open it.

4. Don’t Turn Off USB Ports.

Your computer can stop supplying power to the USB ports to save power. When this happens, you won’t be able to use them to wake your computer from sleep.

To avoid this, don’t allow your system to cut off power to the USB ports.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Press Windows + X on your keyboard to open the Quick Menu
  2. Next, click on Device Manager
Open Device Manager
  1. Expand the Universal Serial Bus tab.
  2. Right-click on an entry and go to Properties
USB Properties
  1. Go to Power Management
  2. Turn off the option “Allow the computer to Turn off this device to save power”.
  3. Click OK to save the changes.

  1. Repeat the process for the other USB entries on the list.

Put your computer to sleep and check if the problem is solved.

5. Change Power Plan.

The “power saver” power plan lets your system turn off the USB ports while sleeping. This will prevent your computer from recognizing your mouse and keyboard, explaining why you can’t wake it up.

To prevent this, change your power plan to balanced or high performance.

Follow the steps below to guide you through the process:

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard to open the Start Menu
  2. Look for Power Plan and click on Choose a Power Plan.
