How to Fix AMD Software Stuck on Downloading Updates

Is the AMD Software stuck on downloading updates?

AMD is one of the best CPU and GPU manufacturers in the world. Their latest Ryzen CPUs are crushing Intel in almost every category, and their RX series graphics card promises to deliver similar performance to NVIDIA’s RTX lineup.

If you are a solid “team red” fan, you probably have a Ryzen CPU paired with a Radeon RX graphics card.

While AMD’s ecosystem works seamlessly with each other, their AMD Radeon Software is not flawless. Like any application, AMD fans can also encounter issues while using the companion software.

One of the most common issues with the AMD Radeon Software is that it gets stuck on downloading updates.

When this issue occurs, you won’t be able to use any features within the app. If you’re unlucky, your GPU might also act up and malfunction if the graphics drivers also get affected.

To help you out, we’ve decided to make a guide on how to fix the AMD Radeon Software if it’s stuck on downloading updates.

Let’s dive right in!

1. Restart Your Computer.

Whenever you encounter problems with the AMD Software, the first thing you should do is restart your computer. This should allow your system to reload its resources and resolve any temporary issues that may have occurred during use.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Access the Start Menu by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard.
  2. Next, go to the Power Options tab.
  3. Finally, click on Restart to reboot your system.

Once done, go back to AMD Radeon Software to check if the problem is solved.

2. Run AMD Software As Admin.

Your system could be blocking the AMD Software from accessing or changing certain resources, explaining why it is stuck on downloading updates. If this is the case, we suggest running the app as an administrator to give it full access to your system.

See the guide below:

  1. On your desktop, locate the AMD Software
  2. Right-click on it and choose Properties
  3. Inside Properties, go to the Compatibility tab.
  4. Finally, enable the ‘Run this Program as an Administrator’ option.

Save the changes and relaunch the AMD Software. Try installing the update again to check if the issue is resolved.

3. Check Your Network Connection.

Downloading content online requires a stable internet connection. If you are having a hard time updating the AMD Software on your computer, it might indicate a problem with your network.

To confirm this, run a test using Fast.com to measure your network’s current upload and download bandwidth.

If the result indicates a problem with your internet connection, power cycle your modem or router to refresh the link with your ISP’s servers. Disconnect your router from the outlet and wait for 5 to 10 seconds before plugging it back in.

Once done, re-run the test on your network to check if the problem is solved. If the issue persists, contact your service provider and report the issue.

4. Turn Off VPN.

Virtual private networks, or VPNs, are third-party services that protect your online data. They mask your default IP address to hide your location and filter your online activity to keep sensitive information secure.

While this is an excellent way to keep your data safe, it can also cause issues with your connection, especially if you are connected to the wrong server.

If you encounter update issues with the AMD Software, try turning off your VPN.

On the other hand, you can also try switching to a different provider, like PureVPN, if you prefer using a VPN online. Unlike other services, PureVPN works well with many applications and doesn’t interfere with your network.

5. Update Windows.

The version of Windows you are using might have an issue that causes problems with the Radeon Software. To rule this out, make sure that you have the latest version of Windows installed.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. On your computer, press the Windows + I keys to open Windows Settings
  2. From there, go to Update & Security and click on Windows Update
  3. Lastly, click on Check for Updates or Download & Install

6. Reinstall AMD Software.

Check out the steps below to delete the AMD Software:

  2. After that, click on Uninstall a Program and locate the AMD Software
