How to Fix com.apple.extensionKit.errorDomain Error 15 on Mac

Encountering a “com.apple.extensionKit.errorDomain Error 15” on your Mac when accessing services related to Mail, Apple ID, or iCloud?

This error prevents them from accessing Apple’s core services, including their Apple ID and iCloud. While some even had errors accessing Internet Accounts in Settings. 

To help out, we’re going to show you effective ways to solve this error code on your Mac. 

Let’s dive right in!

1. Restart Your Mac. 

Whenever you encounter issues on your Mac, you can first try to give it a restart. 

This should reload your system resources, resolving temporary errors that may have occurred during use. 

Restarting your device should also clear corrupted app data from its memory. 

Here’s how you can restart your Mac: 

  1. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of your screen. 
  2. Now, choose Restart from the drop-down menu. 
  3. When prompted, click Restart again to confirm your action.

Try accessing online services afterward to check if the problem is solved. 

2. Check Apple Servers. 

A problem with Apple’s servers could also trigger the “com.apple.extensionKit.errorDomain Error 15” on your Mac. 

Visit Apple’s status page and see if there are outages with the services you’re trying to access.

Sadly, server-related errors can’t be resolved on your end. If the servers are offline, the best thing to do is wait for Apple’s team to address the issue. 

On the other hand, you can head to the next step if Apple’s servers are functional. 

3. Update Your Mac. 

The macOS version you’re using might have an issue preventing your Mac from connecting to Apple’s services. 

To rule this out, check for system updates and install the latest version of macOS. 

Follow the steps below to update your Mac: 

  1. In the upper left corner of your screen, click the Apple icon to open the Apple Menu
  2. Now, click on System Settings
  3. Inside settings, navigate to General > Software Update

Note

  • Your Mac can restart several times while installing the update.
  • The update progress bar might also appear to be stuck. When this happens, don’t do anything. Software updates can take several minutes to complete.

Once done, observe if you’ll still encounter the ExtensionKit error 15. 

4. Refresh Your Apple ID Data. 

You can try signing out your Apple ID on your Mac and adding it after a few minutes. 

This should refresh your Apple ID, ensuring no issues with your data and account information. 

Here’s what you need to do: 

  1. On your Mac, access the Apple Menu and go to System Settings
  2. Now, click on your name on the sidebar. 
  3. Choose Sign Out

  2. After 5 to 10 minutes, add your Apple ID to your Mac. 
  3. Restart your system. 

Try accessing settings or any online service to check if the problem is solved. 

5. Run Console. 

After some research, we’ve found a workaround that lets you access the settings page that triggers the ExtensionKit error. 

This only works if the error occurs when accessing certain settings, and you’ll have to do it every time. 

See the steps below to guide you through the process: 

  1. Open Finder on your Mac. 
  2. Now, go to Applications > Utilities
  3. Double-click on Console to launch it.

Head to the next solution if this doesn’t work for you. 

6. Boot in Safe Mode. 

Starting your Mac in safe mode helps identify whether the problem you’re experiencing is caused by software that loads as your Mac starts. 

If the ExtensionKit error 15 doesn’t occur in safe mode, check recently installed applications on your Mac. 

For Apple silicon-based Macs, here’s how you can restart it in safe mode:

  1. Access the Apple Menu on your Mac and choose Shut Down
  2. Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. 
  3. Next, hold the Power button on your Mac until the “Loading Startup Options” page shows up. 
  4. Choose a volume. 
  5. Hold the Shift key on your keyboard and click Continue in Safe Mode

If you’re using an Intel-based Mac, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Access the Apple Menu on your Mac and choose Shut Down
  2. Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. 
  3. Now, turn on your Mac and immediately press and hold the Shift key
  4. Release the Shift key once you see the login window. 
  5. Follow the prompts to log in to your Mac. 

Note

You can check if your Mac is in Safe Mode by doing the following: 

  1. Hold the Option key and click on Apple Menu > System Information
  2. Next, click on Software on the sidebar. 
  3. Find the Boot Mode section, and the value should be Safe

Try removing recently installed apps on your Mac if the error code doesn’t occur in safe mode. 

7. Terminal Workaround. 

Here is another workaround that many users confirmed working on their end. This requires running a few commands in the Terminal, but the process is straightforward. 

Note

Make sure to save all your work since you’ll need to restart your Mac. 

Follow the steps below to try it on your end: 

  1. Press Command + Space on your keyboard to open Spotlight Search
  2. Look for Terminal and hit Return to open the app.

  1. Now, run these commands: 
mkdir ~/Desktop/backupjunk

mv ~/Library/Application\ Support/iCloud/Accounts/* ~/Desktop/backupjunk
  1. Restart your Mac. 
  2. Open FaceTime. This should save and view your internet accounts. 
  3. Launch Terminal again and run this command: 
sudo shutdown -r now

Once done, you should be able to access online services and settings on your Mac.
