How to Fix Discovery Plus Not Working

Wondering why Discovery Plus is not working on your device?

Discovery Plus is one of the latest on-demand streaming services in the market. While still being new, its developer Warner Bros and Discovery Channel are not new players in the Television scene.

A year since its release, Discover Plus already gained over 22 million subscribers, which is quite impressive, given the competition.

Since Discovery Plus is still new, the service isn’t stable yet.

Recently, subscribers have been reporting that Discovery Plus is not working on their devices. Some users are having a hard time accessing the web app, while others can’t watch any shows in the library.

Most of the time, server outages are the primary reason for Discovery Plus not working. However, it can also be due to slow network connections or faulty app versions.

Today, we will show you how to fix Discovery Plus if it’s not working on your device.

Let’s begin!

1. Check Discovery Plus Servers.

Before doing anything on the platform, the first thing you should do is check Discovery Plus’ servers. Since Discovery Plus is an online streaming service, it relies on the servers to deliver content and services.

You can use third-party apps like Downdetector to view the current status of Discover Plus.

If the servers are down, the best thing to do is wait since server-related issues can’t be addressed on your end. On the other hand, you can head to the next solution below if there are no issues with the servers.

2. Restart Your Device.

While this method appears simple, restarting your device actually does a lot of things. First, it reloads your system resources, which should eliminate temporary errors. Restarting your system also flushes your temporary cache.

On Android:

  1. Find the Power button on your device.
  2. Press and hold the button until the options page shows up.
  3. Lastly, tap on Restart

On iOS:

  1. Open the Assistive Touch on your iOS device.
  2. Next, go to the Device tab and tap on More
  3. Finally, tap on Restart

On macOS:

  1. Access the Apple Menu by clicking on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of your screen.

Go back to Discovery Plus afterward to check if the problem is solved.

3. Check Your Internet Connection.

A slow or unstable internet connection could also be the reason Discovery Plus is not working. When streaming content online, you’ll need stable internet to avoid buffering and playback issues.

To confirm if your network is the culprit, run a test using Fast.com to measure its upload and download bandwidth.

Speed Test

If the test indicates a problem with your connection, power cycle your modem or router to re-establish the link with your ISP’s servers. Unplug your router from the outlet and wait for 5 to 10 seconds before reconnecting it.

Restart Router

Perform another test afterward to check if the problem is solved. If not, contact your provider and ask them to fix the issue.

4. Switch to a Wired Connection.

Another way to improve your connection quality is to switch to a wired connection. Unlike wireless networks, a good old LAN cable is not prone to signal interference, which should deliver a much more stable connection to your PC or TV.

If a wired connection is not possible, you can also try improving the Wi-Fi reception in the area where your TV or device is.

You can use a Wi-Fi mesh or repeater to boost your wireless network’s signal.

5. Update Discovery Plus.

An outdated version of Discovery Plus could also be the reason the app is not working on your device. To fix this, check if there are pending updates for the app and install them to patch possible bugs and glitches.

Head to the Google Play Store or App Store on your device and install the latest version of Discovery Plus.

You can also take this time to update other applications as well.

6. Clear Your Browsing Data.

Browsers store temporary data on your computer, which are called caches and cookies. This data is used to improve the performance of your browser and speed up the loading times of websites.

However, caches and cookies could accumulate over time and become corrupted. To fix this, follow the steps below to clear your data:

  1. First, open your preferred browser and go to Settings
  2. After that, scroll down to Privacy and Security
  3. Now, click on Clear Browsing Data
  4. Change the Time Range to All Time and include caches and cookies in the process.
  5. Lastly, hit the Clear Data button to start.

Once done, re-login to your Discovery Plus account and check if the problem is solved.

7. Reinstall Discovery Plus.

We suggest reinstalling Discover Plus if none of the solutions above worked for you. This way, we can ensure that you have the latest working version of the app and there are no missing packages on your system.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Open your device and go to the app drawer.
  2. Next, locate Discovery Plus and hold down its app icon.
  3. Finally, tap on Remove App (iOS) or Uninstall (Android).
