How to Fix Camera Blinking on iPhone

Having trouble with camera blinking on iPhone?

The most significant feature of an iPhone is its high-quality camera.

However, with its newer versions, many users have reported a common issue of their iPhone camera blinking.

This can be quite frustrating as it prevents users from capturing photos and videos.

Although the reasons behind the flickering of the camera are several, some of the major ones include automatic switching to Macro Mode or light exposure.

But worry not, as this issue can be quickly resolved through the troubleshooting fixes we have mentioned below in this guide.

So, let’s get started!

1. Restart Your iPhone.

Restarting your device is the first and primary fix to resolve any software-related issue. Software glitches or bugs may be causing your iPhone camera to blink. If this is the reason, restarting the device will eliminate any temporary bugs and fix the issue.

Follow the steps below to restart your device:

  1. Press and hold the Power button till the slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider all the way to the right to turn off your device.

  1. Now, wait for a few seconds.
  2. Lastly, press and hold the Power button again and release it once the Apple logo appears on the screen.

As your iPhone restarts, launch the camera again and check if it’s still blinking or not.

2. Relaunch the Camera App.

Sometimes the Camera app on your iPhone may crash, resulting in constant flickering when trying to take photos or videos. If this problem occurs due to a software crash, re-launching the Camera app will be an effective fix.

To relaunch the Camera app, follow the steps below:

  1. Start by swiping up from the bottom of your screen and pause in the middle to access the App switcher. For older iPhone models, double-press the Home button to get to the App switcher.
  2. Swipe left or right to look for the Camera app preview.

  1. Then, swipe up from the app to force quit it.
  2. Now, relaunch the Camera app from the home screen, and the blinking issue should be fixed now. If not, try out the next method from this guide.

3. Disable Macro Mode.

The iPhone 13 Pro and 14 Pro come with the automatically enabled Macro mode feature. This mode turns on by default whenever you bring your iPhone camera closer to an object and captures it with intrinsic detail.

It may be possible that your device’s camera fluctuates between the Wide and Ultra Wide lens, causing the camera to flicker. To avoid this issue, simply disable Macro mode.

Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Launch Settings on your device.
  2. Now, scroll down and choose Camera
  3. Then, turn off the toggle for Macro Control

Once done, go back to the Camera app and see if the blinking problem continues.

4. Enable Lock Camera.

If you’re having trouble shooting a video because your iPhone camera keeps blinking, it may be due to the constant changing of the lens. Your device’s uncertainty in selecting the best lens to record a video leads to the blinking of the camera.

Therefore, you can stop the camera lens from continuously changing by enabling Lock Camera. Follow the steps below:

  1. Head over to the Settings app and select Camera
  2. Choose Record Video
  3. Scroll down and switch on the toggle for Lock Camera Lens

Afterward, go back to the Camera app and it shouldn’t blink anymore.

5. Change the Exposure.

Another cause of the flickering of the camera can be your surroundings lighting. The LED or fluorescent lights may interfere with your iPhone Camera’s shutter rate, causing random blinking. By balancing the exposure settings on your device, you can fix this problem.

Here’s how to change the exposure on your iPhone:

  1. Go to the Camera app and tap on the upward arrow icon from the top of the screen.

This method will temporarily resolve the flickering or blinking issue on your iPhone. If you find that changing the exposure didn’t fix the issue, move to the next method.

6. Disable Live Photos.

The Live Photos feature is usually considered a huge plus for iPhone users. However, it is likely that the camera blinking issue arises due to the device’s ability to capture photos 1.5 prior to and after clicking a picture. This problem may occur if you’re trying to capture a stationary photo.

To prevent this feature from causing disturbances, disable Live Photos in the following way:

  1. Open the Camera app from your iPhone.
  2. After that, tap on the Live Photos icon from the top to disable it.
