1. Check If Emoji Keyboard Is Added

The Emoji keyboard may have been removed from your keyboard list after updating to iOS 17. 

Before tweaking your settings, check if the emoji keyboard is actually enabled.

Here’s what you need to do: 

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone. 
  2. Navigate to General > Keyboards
  3. Find Emoji from the list.

2. Re-Enable Emoji Keyboard

If the emoji keyboard is on your keyboard list, try removing it and adding it back. 

This should force the keyboard to reload its resources, resolving any errors that caused your memojis to go missing on iOS 17.

  1. Open Settings on your device. 
  2. Go to General > Keyboards
  3. Next, tap Edit from the upper right corner.

3. Check Stickers Tab

Users confirmed that their Memojis moved to another location after updating to iOS 17. 

If the solutions above did not work, see if you can find your Memojis from the “Stickers” tab on the Messages app. 

Here’s how to find the new location: 

  1. Launch the Messages app. 
  2. Now, go to any conversation. 
  3. Compose a new message and hit the “+” icon. 
  4. Select Stickers from the option.

4. Update Your iPhone

If you still can’t find your Memojis, try updating your iPhone to ensure the problem is not caused by a faulty version of iOS 17. 

Follow the steps below to update your iPhone: 

  1. Go to Settings on your iPhone. 
  2. Navigate to General > Software Update
  3. Tap on Update Now if a new version is available.

  • Your device can restart several times while installing the update. 
  • Ensure your iPhone has at least 50% battery before installing updates. It’s best to keep your device plugged into the wall charger to avoid interruptions. 
  • Allow at least 15 minutes for the update to install

5. Force Restart Your iPhone

At this point, you can perform a force restart if your Memojis are still missing. 

This should allow your system to reload its resources, eliminating any issues that may have occurred during runtime. 

A force restart also cuts power directly from the battery, clearing corrupted and unused data from the system memory. 

Here’s how you can force restart your iPhone: 

  1. Press and release the Volume Up button
  2. Now, press the Volume Down button once. 
  3. Hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears. 
  4. Release the Side button

Go back to Messages to check if your Memojis are back. 

6. Contact Apple Support

If it was not fixed with a software update, Apple probably isn’t aware of the problem yet or hasn’t addressed it yet.

Head to Apple’s feedback page and fill out the form.
