How to Fix Network Connectivity Issues on Epic Games

Want to know how you can address network connectivity issues on Epic Games?

Epic Games is an online game distribution service with over 189 million users worldwide. It has released some popular titles like Fortnite and Rocket League and is a great alternative for Steam.

Despite having an amazing track record in the gaming industry, Epic Games isn’t safe from issues, like any app or service.

One of the most common problems you can encounter on Epic Games is connectivity issues.

Given that Epic Games is an online service, connectivity errors are quite common and should be easy to fix.

Depending on the situation, this error is usually due to slow or unstable network connections. On the other hand, server downtimes, incorrect configurations, third-party apps, and outdated software can also trigger this problem.

In this guide, we will show you how to resolve network connectivity issues on Epic Games.

Let’s jump right in!

1. Check Epic Games Servers.

Network connectivity issues are usually related to server downtimes and system maintenance. If you are having a hard time logging in to your account or accessing certain features, there might be something wrong with the servers.

To confirm this, proceed to Epic Games’ status page to see if there are ongoing problems or maintenance.

If the servers are down, the best thing you can do is wait. Unfortunately, server problems can only be addressed on Epic Games’ side and changes on your computer or network won’t affect the situation.

On the other hand, you can proceed to the next solution if there’s no problem with the servers.

2. Restart Your Computer.

As a standard practice, we recommend users restart their computers whenever they encounter issues. This should allow your system to reload its resources and eliminate temporary errors that occurred during use.

See the steps below to restart your PC:

  1. Access the Start Menu by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard.
  2. Next, go to the Power Options tab.
  3. Finally, click on Restart to reboot your system.

Go back to Epic Games afterward and see if the problem is solved.

3. Run Epic Games As Admin.

Your system could be preventing Epic Games from accessing your network, explaining why you encounter connectivity issues. To bypass restrictions, run the software as an administrator to give it full access to your system.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. On your desktop, locate Epic Games and right-click on it.
  2. Now, choose Properties and access the Compatibility tab.
  3. Look for the ‘Run this Program as an Administrator’ option and enable it.

Relaunch Epic Games and see if you can now access its features.

4. Check Your Network Connection.

Since Epic Games is an online service, you will need stable internet to enjoy its features. If you encounter network connectivity issues on the platform, it might indicate a problem with your internet.

To confirm if this is the case, perform a test using Fast.com to measure the current speed of your network.

Speed Test

If you have confirmed that your connection is the culprit, restart your modem or router to re-establish the link with the servers. Unplug your router’s power cable and wait for at least five seconds before plugging it back in.

Once done, re-run the test on your network to check if the problem is solved. If the issue persists, contact your ISP or network admin and ask them to handle the situation.

5. Turn Off VPN.

Virtual private networks are third-party services that protect your network and data from harmful entities and websites that track your activity. They work by masking your default IP address and filtering your data through their servers.

However, this process can cause issues with your network and affect its performance.

Due to this, we recommend turning off any VPN you are running before using Epic Games and running your games.

PureVPN

You can also consider switching to a much more reputable provider like PureVPN if you prefer having protection when going online. PureVPN uses dedicated servers to ensure fast, secure, and reliable connections.

6. Update Your Network Drivers.

Outdated or faulty network drivers could also be the reason for network connectivity issues on Epic Games. To ensure everything is in order, update your drivers to the latest version available to patch issues and errors.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Start by accessing the Device Manager on your PC. Press the Windows + X keys and click on Device Manager in the Quick Menu
  2. Now, go to the Network Adapters tab and find your network controller.
  3. Finally, right-click on it and choose Update Driver

Restart your computer after the update and see if you’ll still encounter connectivity issues.

7. Flush Your DNS.

If none of the solutions above worked, the last thing you can do is flush your DNS cache using Command Prompt. This should ensure that there are no issues with your network data and configuration.

See the steps below to flush your DNS:

  1. On your computer, access the Start Menu and look for the Command Prompt
  2. Next, click on the Run as an Admin option.
  3. Finally, enter ‘ipconfig /flushdns’ on CMD and hit the Enter key
