How to Fix Error NW-31297-2 on PS4

Do you see an NW-31297-2 error code on your PS4 when connecting to a wireless network?

The Playstation 4 is one of the best consoles ever released by Sony, and it continues to bring joy to gamers all over the world. It is also the PS4 that solidified online gaming on consoles, with titles like Call of Duty, Battlefield 1, and Apex Legends.

However, all of this would not be possible if not for the PS4’s Wi-Fi capabilities.

With this, owners don’t have to think much about the placement of their console’s since they can connect wirelessly to the home network.

Unfortunately, there are times when your PS4 refuses to connect to your Wi-Fi network and reports an NW-31297-2 error code.

There are a few reasons for this problem with your PS4.

It could be a problem with your router or an issue with your Playstation’s operating system. On the other hand, you could also be using an incorrect password for your wireless network, or your PS4 is not getting enough wireless signal from your router.

In this guide, we will show you how to fix the NW=31297-2 error code on your PS4.

Let’s get started!

1. Restart Your PS4.

If you can’t connect to your wireless network, the first thing you should try is restarting your PS4. This will give your console the chance to reload all of its resources, which may not have loaded correctly the first time you boot up your PS4.

You can follow the guide below to restart your PS4:

  1. First, press and hold the PS button on your DualShock controller.
  2. Next, navigate to the Power tab using the D-Pad
  3. Lastly, highlight Restart PS4 and press the O or X button to proceed.

After restarting your PS4, go back to the settings and try connecting to your wireless network again.

2. Try Connecting Other Devices.

You can also try connecting other devices to your wireless network and see if you would experience the same thing. This way, you can immediately identify if the problem is on your Playstation or your home network.

If other devices can connect to your Wi-Fi, the problem is with your Playstation. However, if you can’t connect any device to your network, it means that the issue is on your modem or router.

3. Verify Your Wi-Fi Password.

There are many instances when you forget your home network’s password since most of your devices stay connected to the Wi-Fi after connecting it the first time. If you can’t connect your PS4 to your wireless network, try confirming with other people in your home if you are using the correct password.

On the other hand, you can also contact your network admin to reset your Wi-Fi password or do it yourself if you know the admin account of your router. You can access most routers through their default gateway, which is usually “191.168.1.1”.

4. Move Your Router / PS4 Closer.

Another reason why your PS4 can’t connect to your home network is if it’s not getting enough wireless reception from your router. Although your PS4 can detect your wireless network, the signal could be too weak or unstable for your console to connect.

To fix this, try moving your router or PS4 closer to each other or check for other devices that can interfere with your wireless network’s signal.

You can also purchase a Wi-Fi repeater to boost your network’s signal on the location of your Playstation. If this is not possible, you can always go for the traditional route and use a LAN cable.

5. Restart Your Router.

You can also try restarting your router if none of your devices can connect to it. Although routers are designed to run for months or years, they can also encounter unexpected problems while in use and cause connection issues to your devices.

To fix this, unplug your router from the outlet and let it rest for at least 10 seconds or longer. After that, reconnect the power cable and wait for your router to restart.
