Now, online gaming is really entertaining until lags come into the picture and ruin your entire experience.

Ping measures the time it takes for packets to be sent from Roblox’s servers to a destination computer, which is your device. Ideally, a ping below 20ms is exceptional for online gaming. This means that data from the servers are sent to your computer every 20 milliseconds.

1. Check Roblox’s Servers. 

The first thing you should check when you experience ping spikes on Roblox is its servers. All data on the game are coming from the servers, and you’ll likely encounter lags and other issues when it’s not working correctly. 

To confirm if the problem is coming from Roblox’s end, visit Downdetector to check the current status of Roblox. 

If there’s an issue with the platform, you can’t do anything about it since server-related problems can only be addressed on Roblox’s side. 

Proceed to the following method below if Roblox’s servers are working fine. 

2. Check Your Network Connection. 

One of the most common reasons you encounter ping spikes on Roblox or any online game is your network connection. If your internet is unstable or slow, the game can’t communicate with the servers, and delays will occur. 

To check if your network is the culprit, run a speed test using Fast.com to measure its current upload and download bandwidth. 

If your internet is running slow, reboot your modem or router to re-establish the connection between your router and your service provider’s servers. 

Once done, re-run the test on your network to see if your connection is now stable. If not, contact your ISP and ask them to fix their service. 

3. Close Unnecessary Programs. 

If you have a lot of background applications running, they can also cause lags and ping spikes on Roblox. When you have various programs running on your system, they can consume bandwidth from your network, which can cause lags. 

To avoid this, close the programs you’re not currently using to lessen the load on your network. 

Here’s what you need to do: 

1. First, press the Windows + X keys on your computer to open the Quick Menu. 
2. Next, click on Task Manager to launch it. 
3. After that, go to the Processes tab and click on Network to sort the programs based on their bandwidth consumption.

4. Check Your Wireless Connection. 

If you’re using a wireless network on your computer, check if your system receives enough reception from your Wi-Fi. When using a wireless connection, having a good reception from your router is vital to maximize the performance of your network. 

Compared to a wired connection, Wi-Fi tends to deliver slower bandwidth, which can become worst if you’re not getting enough reception. 

Try using a signal booster or Wi-Fi repeater on your computer’s location if it’s away from your modem, or switch to a wired connection if possible. 

5. Flush Your DNS.

Your DNS cache may have gotten corrupted during use, which causes issues with your network connection. To fix this, use the Command Prompt to flush your DNS and clear corrupted DNS caches. 

Here’s how you can flush your DNS on Windows: 

1. On your computer, go to the Start Menu and look for ‘Command Prompt’. 
2. Now, click on Run as Administrator to launch CMD. 
3. Finally, type ‘ipconfig /flushdns’ and hit the Enter key to start the process. 

After flushing your DNS, reboot your computer and see if you would still experience ping spikes on Roblox. 

6. Switch to a Different Network. 

Your service provider could be experiencing technical issues at the moment, which explains the ping spike on Roblox. In this case, you can try switching to another network in the meantime if you have more than one internet connection available. 

On the other hand, try using your cellular data to play Roblox if you don’t have an alternate internet source on your home. 

Keep in mind that games may consume more data than normal browsing, which could max out your bandwidth limit. 

7. Change Your DNS. 

If you’re using your ISP’s default DNS, we recommend switching to other DNS providers such as Google. Compared to your default DNS, Google’s DNS is much stable, which should improve your connection’s quality. 

See the steps below to change your DNS on Windows: 

1. First, open the Start Menu and search for ‘View Network Connections’. 
2. After that, click on Open and right-click on your current network. 
3. Now, choose Properties and double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). 
4. Lastly, enable the ‘Use the Following DNS’ option and input the following values: 

• Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8
• Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4
