Want to Stop Mail Link Preview in macOS? Here’s How To Do It!

Since macOS Ventura, Apple’s Mail app embeds link previews of any link you paste from the clipboard.

While this enhances user experience by showing the link’s content, not everyone likes it.

Unfortunately, Apple does not offer any option to turn off the feature.

To help out, I’ll show you some workarounds to bypass the link preview feature.

TL;DR Version

To stop Mail app link preview on your Mac:

  1. Use Insert Link
  2. Convert to Plain Text
  3. Change Message Format

1. Use Insert Link

The most straightforward way to bypass Mail’s link preview in macOS is to use the “insert link” function.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Open the Mail app on your Mac.
  2. Compose a message and fill in the usual fields (Recipient, Subject, CC, etc).
  3. Now, press Command + K to add the Insert Link dialog.
  4. Paste the link you want to include in your email.
  5. Click OK to confirm.

2. Convert to Plain Text

If you prefer pasting links directly from the clipboard or using Command + V, you can manually convert links to plain text to stop adding link previews.

To do this, you need to:

  1. Paste the link you want to add to your email.
  2. Now, click the V icon next to the link preview.
  3. Select Convert to Plain Link to remove the preview.

3. Change Message Format

You can also change the Mail’s app message format to plain text if the two options above are inconvenient for you.

However, this will also stop Mail from automatically creating hyperlinks for pasted links.

If you’re okay with that, then here’s how to do it:

  1. Open the Mail app on your Mac.
  2. Now, go to Settings
  3. Access the Composing tab.
  4. Under Message Format, select Plain Text

Switching to Rich Text Format

Once you’ve set your Mail app to plain text, you can still switch to rich text format for your current message if you need to.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Compose a new message on the Mail app
  2. Before adding anything, click on Format in the menu bar.
  3. Select Make Rich Text and click Convert
