5 Ways to Fix Tags in Microsoft Teams

Tags come in handy for organizing your team. This allows you to manage your team by sorting their roles, project assignments, or even work shifts. 

However, issues arise when the tags malfunction. 

In this guide, you’ll learn how to troubleshoot when the tags in Microsoft Teams are not working as they should.

1. Refresh Your Session

If your tags are not working, try refreshing your session. Sometimes, glitches in your account can disrupt certain app features.

  1. Click on your Profile at the top right corner. 
  2. Select Manage Account

  2. Log back into your account.

2. Update Microsoft Teams to the Latest Version

Oftentimes, an older version of Microsoft Teams may contain bugs that affect the tags and group mentions.

For Windows 10 users, here’s how to check for updates:

  1. Press the Windows + I on your keyboard to open Windows Settings
  2. Navigate to Update & Security
  3. Select Windows Update on the menu on the right.

5. Reinstall Microsoft Teams

How do you enable tags on a team?

Enabling tags in Microsoft Teams facilitates streamlined communication. Tagging can be done by either the team owner or by an assigned team member.

To add a custom tag:

  1. Open Microsoft Teams
  2. Click the three-dot menu next to the channel you want to customize. 
  3. Choose Manage Tags
  4. Edit or create a tag and assign team members.

Team owners and assigned members can add up to 25 tags on Microsoft Teams, each composed of 25 characters maximum. Owners can also enable custom tags to let people add new tags other than the default ones.
